Seeing God in Every Day

Where do our daily miracles come from? The sun has again risen from behind the horizon, the world is still spinning in motion, and our clock upon the mantlepiece continues to tick away second by second. We have awoken – our heart is still beating, and we are still breathing. How often do we take a moment to thank the Lord for the new day He has made? Before all the worries and troubles overwhelm us with anxiety, can we spend a few serene moments accepting the miracle of today?

Our days may vary drastically… from pleasant, good, or wonderful, to devastating, disastrous, and terrible. We might have allotted the time before us, making plans and holding expectations. Occasionally we can tell whether the day ahead of us holds the promise of a good day or a bad one. But without fail, even what may seem to be the most controlled moment in our hands can spin out of control and end very differently. We are mortal, failing people. We do not know our futures and destinies, we cannot control what becomes of our plans, because we have been created that way. And rather than sinking in anxiety and fear as Peter did on the stormy sea, we must keep our eyes upon the Rock that is ever before us in every storm. The Lord has promised He will never leave us nor forsake us. 

When the days before you seem filled with the fog of uncertainty, and when you cannot be sure whether the steps you are taking are still on solid ground, accept the peace and joy the Lord is willing to fill you with. For our God is omnipotent – He is capable of anything, despite the impossibilities. While the day may seem utterly clouded to us, God from His throne can see the span of our life as clearly as crystal. He has had everything planned out from the very beginning, and no moment is accidental for Him. Place your existence entirely into His hands, and rely on Him to lead you through every day as a shepherd leads His sheep. We will never be masters of our destiny. We cannot even control our frail bodies from illness or death, much less can we control the circumstances around us. Accepting every new day with the desire to follow the will of our Lord will give us peace in the middle of uncertainty. 

Prayer is a precious gift. No longer do we have to bring animals to the altar of the Tabernacle and offer a sacrifice to God before we can commune with Him and ask His pardon for our sins. We can be in communion with Him throughout the day, at any time and any place. He has placed our existence in the age of Grace. Jesus has paid for our sins so that we can escape the bondage of sin and freely accept our pardon. Indeed, what excuse have we to neglect such great salvation? Do we continue to see the miracle of being a child of God? Can we thank Him for His divine plan in history which cost Him so much anguish and the death of His Son? Do we continue to praise Him for His power in the resurrection of Jesus and the promise of the coming resurrection of the saints? For indeed, He is worthy of such praise.

The Lord hears every prayer that comes from a clean heart, and He answers every prayer in His own time and will. When we accept that He is the King of our life, we must accept every answer He gives as well. Acknowledging our insignificance and submitting to His will gives us greater peace and protection, as a sheep would find when it follows its shepherd to the fold. Are we truly grateful for God’s guidance in our life? Indeed, where would we be if we had our way with everything?

So, when you once again open your eyes in the morning and see the sun rising and feel your heart still beating, take a moment to thank God for blessing you with another day. Don’t forget to bring all your worries and troubles to His feet and ask for His direction. Your loving Father will never fail to lead you if you only ask.

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
