Hagar was an abused woman.
Abraham was the father of Hagar’s baby boy Ishmael, because his own wife Sarah had failed to produce a son as his heir.
Now, at Sarah’s insistence, Abraham had sent Hagar and baby Ishmael away into the desert, and he’d given her a big container of water.
Now, the water had gone. Alone in the desert, Hagar anticipated Ishmael’s death.
Total bleakness and despair.
But!
“God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water.” Genesis 21:19
How often we need God to open our eyes!
