INTRODUCTION
In today’s uncertain Topsy-Turvi world, in which we find ourselves, there is a concern, a growing need for a return to America’s past, a down-to-earth, simpler, faith-based family-oriented lifestyle, with a bit of humor thrown into the mix. Our first blog of this nature was of such a great success, and the need to continue such blogs was evident.
I have titled this repeat, A Day In The Life of the Pretubed 2.0 Reason being, does it denote a superior or more advanced version of my original concept? You be the judge.
(Philippians 3:13) - Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before.
As I look around me once again at this great Republic of ours, America, the land of the free and home of the brave, it seems as if America continues to be in a grand mess. I can't help but wonder about today’s America. Given our current ungodly, progressive, socialist attitude, what will become of us now and in the future? Has America’s faith-based, patriotic foundation crumbled? If so, what had caused this crumbling, and how might we recover?
Like a sudden lightning strike, it came to me. According to all I see, read, and hear, America has apparently forgotten all about our living Creator God. Our nation has forgotten His basic principles given through Scripture, and those contained within the documents inspired by our founding fathers, including the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Mayflower Compact.
Well, put your shoes back on, and let us move on down that rocky road. The cows are out of the barn. The cat's been let out of the bag. The dog’s fleas need scratching. I might as well go ahead and gabble a bit. How’s your day been so far? Oh really? Me too. Nonetheless, there’s still time to change that. Put down that morning coffee, that piece of burnt toast with jelly, and dream a spell.
Take a break from all the mundane “Honey Dew” chores and rest a bit. Find for yourself a bit of life’s well-known substance, that set of actions or ideas associated with a specific group or activity.
After you’ve had your morning devotion and said your morning prayers, it’s time to move on through the day. Some of my favorite Scripture passages are found in the down-to-earth book of Proverbs. It's like my old preacher Daddy use to say, “Proverbs tells me where I am, where I came from and where I’m headed. It shows my good and bad, my wealth, my folly, my sin, my pride, my humility, my gluttony, my lust, my laziness, my family life, my devotion, my goodness." And on we go down the bumpy road of life.
Yes, I could go on and on, but I’m sure you get my drift. Dad surely hit the bull’s eye. The book of Proverbs really does show me how to live a godly life here on earth and how to be assured of reward in the life to come.
So then, my day continued as any other normal perturbed day. I went to the fast-food joint for breakfast, only to have gotten someone else’s order. Yes, I did open the sack and counted the breakfast sandwiches, but obviously I didn’t unwrap them to check the contents. The call back to the fast-food manger availed nothing, as I failed to keep the food receipt as always.
Why do all my musings of late center around food? As the wife puts it, “that’s all you think about, you’re obsessed with food.” Not really. When I'm in my favorite man cave rocker, sometimes I take time out to sit and think, other times I just sit. It’s like my Daddy would often say, after I licked the mashed potato bowl clean, “Son, do you eat to live, or do you live to eat?”
I have to admit, however, my last dream was a doozy. I was in never-never land, watching a big parade of gravy-covered biscuits marching by. It was a good entry point for a wild and wooly fiction dream parable, wouldn't you say?
I will move on with the day’s story. Gramps awoke a little irritable as usual. He’ll be ok, and back to normal, tooling around with his cane. after his morning routine of eight glasses of cold water, morning pills, and winning out on the bathroom marathon. Grandmother is doing all right, even though she burnt the biscuits again, not to mention scrambling the pancakes, as they stuck to the bottom of the pan.
The coffee machine must have made its final kitchen go-round, as well. And the fresh milk was anything but fresh. It didn’t matter any-who, since the rest of breakfast was inedible.
The paper man forgot our paper as usual. Never mind, I’ll just revisit yesterday’s edition, as nothing has changed in our country. It’s the same ole, same ole news headlines. Such is life in the pre-programmed progressive fast lane.
There’s the old grandfather clock striking thirteen again. Been meaning to have it fixed, but just haven't gotten around tuit. “What is around tuit?” you may ask. I understand, of course, it’s your age. It’s a wooden circular token that reminds one who holds it to do something which he said he would do, when he got around to it.
Nonetheless, it’s time to round up the dog for his morning neighborhood walk. Oh no, it’s too late again, if you know what I mean, butter bean. The smell has already made it through the house, starting in the kitchen.
So, I’ll just turn to my favorite faith-based television channel. Oops, they were having their monthly fund raiser again. Seems they just did this last week. Our new church pastor just called. He wants to come by and sit a spell. Now where did we stash that big white family, Bible, the one containing all the food ad coupons? Jr, will you please check in the sitting room for that book Mom loves to read so well. Oh no, what’s this? You brought back the Sears-Roebuck catalog.
Why can’t we simply go back to yesteryear? Years ago, our Old Time Religion had an famous quote, as our preacher would say, “I know about the sweet by and by, but what about the nasty now and now?” Can you shout a big Amen?
Has our country turned into a nation of deadbeats? I’m not pointing any fingers, nor calling any names. You no doubt probably have someone in mind. Your neighbor down the street? Your local grocer? Your postal employee? Your school teacher? Maybe even your pastor, God forbid. Well, I could go on and on, not to ruffle any feathers, but you get my drift, I’m sure. I too have a similar laundry list, which I will keep secret for obvious reasons.
What may a deadbeat be anyhow? According to the internet, a deadbeat is described in short “As a lazy or undesirable person.” Now then, who comes to mind? Again, I have my private laundry list.
If only the various news reporters would truthfully deliver the actual news, rather than set out to please their paying sponsors. If only our government would tell the truth for once, rather than buy votes by lying to us. If only the church pastors would stick to the Old Time Religion gospel format, rather than set out to please their supporting parishioners. What a glorious nation, what a prosperous country we would see if they did. Oh, I know. I too may have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale as well.
Nonetheless, I have not given up on our country's populace. Our nation has seen both good and bad times, down through the ages. The Scripture too gives us hope. We don’t know what holds true for tomorrow, but we know who holds the tomorrow, don’t we? His plans are not our plans, nor His divine timing ours.
The Scripture is very plain. Our living Heavenly Father appoints both righteous and evil authorities to affect His perfect will on this great universe of ours. (Daniel 2:20-21) But why does it all seem to be happening to us all of a sudden-like?
And, why does time fly by in today’s progressive hurry-up-and-wait world of ours? That’s one for my mind to mull over, as I take my usual mid-morning snooze. Of course, now I get it. Time flies because people are always trying to somehow kill it.
Well now, it’s already past mid-morning and I’ve not yet had my snack of a big chocolate nut candy bar and glass of Coke. No wonder I’m so crabby.
Oh, I almost forgot. Time to take the dog out again for his mid-morning neighborhood adventure. What would we do without those bright red fire plugs? Oh no, here she comes, our neighborhood know-it-all. What is it this time? It can’t be the dog, for he’s leashed.
Oh well, time to move on. Time to remind the wife it's soap opera time. Will that quiet little girl finally trap the young man of her dreams? Or, is that still not in the cards for at least for months down the road? It does make for nice story, however. You know, being retired, with nothing to do and no place to go, I must admit, I’m close to getting hooked on soap operas myself.
I must admit, these tear jerkers out-weigh all the drive-by news crowds. Whatever happened to the one-man broadcasters? Nowadays, we have two or more dizzy blondes finishing each other’s sentences.
Well, I’ll zip up my loose lips for now, until next time. In the meantime, see you in the funny papers.
CONCLUSION
There you have it. My conclusion of it all simply put. If “if’s and buts” were “candy and nuts”, we could all have a good ole time. In the meantime, this elusive blog will have to do the trick, or job, if you may.
You see, sometimes I just can’t stop my rambling, as they say. By the way, who are they? Nonetheless, let them say what they say. The truth is, I did not engage in any misleading. Amen!
