How Great A Salvation

What happens when a person accepts Jesus as his or her Savior? This article gives what could be called a biblical tour of salvation, incorporating many “stops” along our journey. 

     Our journey begins at Colossians 1:13. Here we see that salvation “delivers us from the domain of darkness and transfers us to the kingdom of God’s beloved Son, in whom we have redemption and forgiveness of sins.”

     Next we go to Ephesians 1:13-4. This “sign post” tells us that we have been “sealed with the promised Holy Spirit” and guaranteed our spiritual inheritance. Coupled with this is John 10:28-29. Jesus is speaking here: “I give them eternal life...and no one will snatch them out of my hand.” Our salvation is eternally secure.

     The next “stop” is Titus 3:5-7. Here we read that salvation is justification by grace alone, and “heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” This is not based on anything we do but on God’s mercy and undeserved favor.

     We now depart to Ephesians 2:18-22. The point of interest here is that Christians have become members of God’s household “built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets...As members of God”s family, we have direct access to the Father.”

     Our journey through the Bible reveals that there is a privileged benefit for being a part of God’s family. II Peter 1:3-4 says “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness...by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partskers of the divine nature...”  

     Now let’s go back to Psalm 103. Here we need to pause at this “scenic view rest area” as we stop to take it all in. The “road sign“ posted at verses 8-12 reads “The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He will not always chide, nor will he keep his anger forever. He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.”

     As we continue on our journey we come to I Thessalonians 5:9. We read, “God has not destined us for wrath...” God has spared us from the wrath to come upon the world. 

     The final destination is found in John 14:2-3. God has prepared a place for us, that where he is we may be also. This journey has prepared us for our eternal destination, where we will be presented “blameless before the presence of His glory with great joy, to the only God, our Saviour...”

     I hope you have enjoyed stopping at all the points along our journey to take in God’s marvelous grace. O what a great salvation!
