I was thinking of all the final, finishing touches that are at last being made, to complete my various Christmas projects, and one especially made me think of our love.

It was a very simple thing, just a pom-pom to top off a hat.... it serves two purposes when it is done and put there.... one very practical, the other just fun to look at. The pom-pom when attached will cover the tiny hole, where all the yarn for the hat is gathered to finish it off.... the other is just to add that touch of jauntiness, a happy little note, that bobs along as you take each step.

To make that pom-pom, I had to wind two colors of yarn round my fingers - two colors because one was just too bland, I wanted it to be noticed you see. It took a lot of yarn, to make it full enough, and when that shapeless ball was slipped off, it didn't look like much.... but inside your head you could see.... what it would look like when it was done, and that's the goal you worked for, to make the thought and the fact become one.

So through the center of that wound up ball, went a strand of yarn much stronger than the rest, and tied in a knot that would never come loose, the tails of the knot falling free. Then came the hard part, to cut the circles free, and trim the ends till they were short - then when you fluffed them out with your fingers, suddenly there it was, the perfect little pom-pom, each yarn end waving free but not alone...ready to be tied to any project you pleased.

And I think of our love...our two colors of yarn, that God gathered together when we met.... and each day since, it is the same.... our yarns of two colors are wound around the fingers of His word in our hearts.... and at first you cannot see the end, the shape of the day yet to be.

Through the center of those endless circles of yarn goes the cord of God's love and care for us.... tied with a knot that will never come loose...and as the hours go by, the yarn is shaped by the scissors of each experience, word and deed...to create the pom-pom of that day, and bit by bit we become more a part of the love that God has put in our hearts.

We trim off the ragged edge of hurt, and smooth out the mistakes that we make, and by day's end, the yarn is all fluffed out, making the pom-pom we see on the outside to match the one in our hearts, the one that we really want to be. Then no matter where we're put, the circumstances don’t matter.... for tied to God with that strong cord thru the center, we can add that touch of joy, a reflection of His love to wherever we happen to be.

What a joy it is to be tied together with you, knotted so tightly in God's love, my heart just overflows with such happiness and delight that all of this wonder I get to share each day with you.
