When you heard someone mentioning marriage, what is your very first reaction to it? What would you think of immediately? Do you hear more good than the bad?

Nowadays in our society, we take marriage very lightly, easy go and easy come. As in christian circle, do you notice any difference or you also sensed that christians are taking marriage lightly as non-christians? If we are christians and we are married, what would be the right attitude towards our God-given marriage?

Yes, God-given marriage - God ordained us in the marriage as husband and wife and if God arranged the marriage, should we take marriage lightly as if it was our own marriage, that God is excluded? 

Recently, I have been thinking over what marriage really means to God....We know very well in Genesis, God created Eve for Adam - woman created for man's sake, God sees that man shall not be alone, so God created woman for man. For man, it surely is a great blessing that God cares for the man's loneliness and God provided a help mate for the man as well. What a great blessing indeed.

For woman, what a ministry that we as women shall serve our husbands for the sake of loving God. Being a wife is no easy task, it's a 24/7 on call task. Our ministry is to serve our husbands with all diligence and whole-hearted love like the way how we will serve the Lord. For man, he isn't the boss and he can do nothing in the house. Not so....man reflects the image of God, man needs to love and care for his wife like how Christ cares for His church. Christ sacrifices himself for the sake of the church, Christ lives a self-less example for his followers to follow and Christ's love is pure and totally devoted unto death on the Cross. 

As we learnt about the woman and man's role in God's kingdom, we can then learn more about committing one to another. Commitment is a less popular topic in our nowadays society as well, no one would be interested about making life-long commitment, it's troublesome, uneasy and being controlled. In a free country, we look not to making commitment but temporary pleasure which pleases our bodies ....

Life-long commitment become old-fashioned or out of the popular trend.
Fearing God or worshipping God mean less and less to even christians in church. 
It is out of the focus to even think about glorifying God, if we don't have a fear of God or even think of spending time with God to worship who He is. 

When God put two together, He didn't mean two perfect people joined together BUT in truth, two broken people put together as one that they can learn from God for some crucial life lessons which include: 1) forgiving one another's mistake  2) growing more like Christ through learning from mistakes  3) understanding the depth of God's grace and mercy 

I just got to name a few life-lessons which will benefit our inner man to be more like Christ and in this way, we can then truly glorify God in our marriage. Without the forgiveness of sins toward your spouse, we cannot truly understand the love of God towards us. Since God so loved each one of us, and God graciously send you a helper wife or God graciously answer your prayer for a husband...we need to therefore love and forgive one another and still upholding our commitment to one another through God's strength and help. It is not up to us to call off a marriage, we have no rights to break it whenever we feel like it. It is not about how we feel toward our spouse, it is all about how we shall honour what God has given us - a wife or a husband. You two belong to God, your marriage is God's. 

So brothers and sisters.....
take heart, marriage is God ordained and we can only glorify God by living out a life that love and forgiveness are the main ingredient in the marriage. In your circumstance, it might not seem to be easy or possible. No matter how hard it seems, God has the final say in your life and your marriage life, don't take charge of it yourself, give it to God - God is Sovereign and He is able to deliver you and free your marriage from any conflicts or trouble. Look unto God for help, He is our source of help and He alone will deliver and save! Amen to His name.
