I JOHN CHAPTER ONE


I JOHN 1:1-4

1.
That which was from the beginning,
Which we with our ears have heard;
Of which we're proud without sinning,
We've seen and touched God's own Word.

Yes, with our eyes we have seen Him;
With our hands we've touched Him too.
This Word of life we do proclaim
In this letter unto you.

The life appeared, we have seen it,
And we now to you proclaim.
He appeared for our benefit;
Eternal life is His aim.

We proclaim to you this good news,
So your fellowship with us
Can unite us in all good views
With the Father and Jesus.


CHORUS

We write to make our joy complete
That you might be one with us.
There is no need that we compete
But be united in Jesus.



IJOHN 1:5-7


This is the message we have heard
From Him, and declare to you,
God is light we can be assured;
He all darkness bids adieu.

If fellowship with Him we claim,
Yet in darkness we still walk,
Then all that's truth we put to shame,
And we lie with all our talk.

But if we really walk in light
And enjoy one another,
His blood will cleanse us all pure white,
And He will be our brother.

Fellowship should be our key goal
With the Father and the Son.
Everyone can play a key role
If all darkness we will shun.

CHORUS

God is light, in Him no darkness.
God is light, He ever shines.
God is light in blazing starkness.
God is light, all light combines.





IJOHN 1:8-10


If we claim to be without sin,
We deceive ourselves for sure.
The truth is clearly not within
And we are surely not pure.

But if we will confess our sin,
He is faithful to forgive.
He will purify us within
So in righteousness we live.

If we claim we have never sinned
We call our God a liar.
All that we say is worthless words;
His Word in us has no fire.

So be honest and confess it.
Be open about your sin.
Don't fail to fully then submit
And be fully cleansed within.

CHORUS

Help us Lord be a confessor
Of all offenses to you.
Help us your grace ever implore;
To your Word always be true.





I JOHN CHAPTER TWO

I John 2:1-6


My dear children
I write to you
That you not sin,
But if you do
We have one who
Can give you peace within.
There is a place for us to run;
Its Jesus Christ, the righteous one.

When we've done wrong and we feel tense
Our lord will come to our defense.
We need not fear, each case he'll win
He's paid the price for all our sin.

Not only we but the whole world
Deserves to be into hell hurled
But Jesus paid the sacrifice
And won for all a paradise.

We now can know its all okay
If his commands we will obey,
But if it's words we only say
We clearly lie and miss the way.

But if his word does guide our feet
God's love in us will be complete
We'll walk in light that will not dim
And we will know we are in him.

His truth must be our guiding light
We must obey each day and night.
Open your life keep nothing hid
But walk in light as Jesus did.



1john 2:7-11


Dear friends I now repeat to you
An old command, it's nothing new.
Its always been right from the start
A truth from God's own loving heart.

And yet its new this truth I write
For now in that there is new light.
Its truth is seen in him and you
As darkness fades true light we view.

We now can see its not enough
To claim the light is the right stuff,
If in your heart hate does abide
For a brother whose on your side.

It's only those who live in light
Who stumble not in this world's night,
For those who hate, the paths not kind
They will get hurt for they are blind.

O lord I pray help all to see
The power of consistency.
Our walk and talk must both agree
For us to live in harmony.

Discord will sound, darkness will blind
Truth will be lost where none can find.
If hate we choose and love betray,
So fill us lord with love today.




IJohn2:12-14


1
Dear children I write to you
Because there's no debt that's due,
You can never be the same
Forgiven in Jesus name.

Dear fathers I write to you
From the very start you knew,
Him whom now your children love
The God of life and all love.

Dear young men I write to you
To give praise where praise is due.
Thanking God for what you've done
To outwit the evil one.

Dear children I write to you
Because this I know is true,
God the father on the throne
Is by you so clearly known.

Dear father's I write again
Grateful that there are such men,
Who know him, God from the start,
And who love him in their heart.

Dear young men I write to you
Because God's word lives in you.
And because you are so strong,
And have overcome all wrong.

Let us love each other then
Sharing God's love to all men,
Escaping all dark defeat
Letting God's love be complete.

Love like God has shown to us
in giving the lord Jesus
That we might forever live
Because He this love did give.

Here's the point in all I write,
All are precious in God's sight.
The young, the strong, and the old;
Each means more to God than gold.

All are of God's family,
And he wants them all to see
Everyone must play a role
To achieve God's final goal.




1John 2:15-17

1
Do not love the world
Or anything therein,
Those who love the world
Have not God's love within.

All that's in the world
Is not from God above,
Flags are there unfurled
That desecrate his love.
No do not love it,
Nor its values covet.

Sinful men just crave
What their flesh lusts after
They boast and they rave
With great pride and laughter.

All this world's desires
Will surely pass away,
But he who aspires
To all God's will obey,
Will live forever,
Forever with the lord.




I John 2:18-23


1
Now dear children listen to me
We have come to the last hour,
And if you look you clearly see
Anti-Christ is here in power,

Anti-Christs have gone out from us;
They really did not belong.
If they really loved our Jesus
They'd have stayed and sung his song.

But you all have an anointing
From the holy one above.
You are people he's appointing
To know the truth of his love.

Anyone who denies Jesus
Is the long awaited Christ,
Is a liar to deceive us
He's a dangerous anti-Christ.

No one who denies God's own son
Has the father in his heart,
But those who acknowledge the son
Will have both right from the start.

Both the father and son are one;
They are one in unity,
And their goal is not ever done
Tell they are one in you and me.



I John 2:24-29


1
See what you have heard from the start
Remains in you never to part,
For if it does in you remain
Eternal life will be your gain.

There are those who will lead astray
So listen to God's voice within;
From your solid teachings don't stray,
But be ever loyal to him.

The lord will be coming again;
Be ready for when he appears.
Be confident women and men;
Be unashamed and without fears.

If you know that he is righteous,
Then you know too it is no whim,
Everyone who does what's right-plus
Can be judged, clearly born of him.





I JOHN CHAPTER THREE


Verses 1-6

How great the love of the Father
That is bestowed upon us.
We are children of this Father
Because of our Lord Jesus.

The reason the world does not know
That we are the children of God,
Is because they live here below
In darkness not knowing our God.

But dear friends this truth is quite clear,
That we are His children right now,
And when our dear Lord does appear
His likeness to us He'll endow.

Then we will be just like our Lord
When we see him just as He is.
His pure life that we have adored
Moves us to pure living like His.

When we sin we break God's pure law,
For sin is lawlessness in heart.
But our Lord, who lived without flaw
Appeared, so from sin we could part.

He died to take our sins away
And in him no sin could be found.
He made it so we, made of clay
Can still live a life pure and sound.

So none of us who live in Him
Can keep on sinning any more.
If we do, our light will grow dim,
And we never knew God before.



Verses 7-10

Dear children, please heed then I pray;
Let no one on this lead astray.
He who does what's right every day
Is righteous in a Christ-like way.

In contrast I want you to see
The sinful man will ever be
A slave for the devil's great glee,
From that Jesus will set us free.

Satan sinned from the beginning,
And he will ever be sinning,
But we have a new beginning,
Over sin we can be winning.

We have been born by God's own seed,
And to victory this will lead.
If to God's Spirit we give heed,
We will in Christ surely succeed.

This is how God's children are known;
They are no longer so sin prone.
Those who will not God's will condone
Clearly are not among God's own.

One who loves not a brother dear
Is not of God it is quite clear.
Unloving Christians none can cheer,
But only those who love each peer.



Verses 11-20

This is the message you heard,
We should love one another,
And we ought never be stirred
To do harm to a brother.

Let us never be like Cain,
Who murdered brother Abel.
He whose blood the ground did stain
Because his faith was stable.

Brothers you too are hated
In this world of hostile Cains.
He who loves not, its stated
In the realm of death remains.

We have passed from death to life
If we love one another,
But endless will be the strife
For one who hates his brother.

How do we know about love?
Jesus is our example.
He came to us from above
Not to our weak lives trample.

He laid down His life for us,
And thus clearly showed us the way.
We are to follow Jesus,
And our lives too give away.

If your brother is in need.
And the love of God's in you,
You will respond with great speed,
And do what is right and true.

When you do this you will know,
And your heart will be at rest.
God is with you here below,
And will through you others bless.

Let us love not just in words,
But with truth and loving acts.
Do not love by half or thirds,
That from Christ-likeness subtracts.

Our hearts may still condemn us,
But God's greater than our heart.
So if we love like Jesus,
God will peace to us impart.



Verses 21-24

If our hearts do not condemn us,
Dear friends we have confidence
That when we pray He will hear us,
And guide us by His providence.

For if we do what does please Him,
He will choose to please us too.
He will fill our lives to the brim,
If we give Him what He's due.

He commands that we love Jesus,
And love one another too.
If we obey, this just frees us
To be channels He works through.

He lives in us and we in Him,
And this is how we know it-
The Spirit of love that's within
Uses our lives to show it.





I JOHN CHAPTER FOUR


Dear friends do not believe
Every spirit you hear.
Many who will deceive
Are now already here.

Put each one to the test
To see if they're from God.
You've got to keep abreast
As through this world you trod.

If Jesus in the flesh
They even once deny,
This warning you keep fresh,
For anti-Christ is nigh.

They are now in this world,
But you can overcome.
Let your faith be unfurled,
And start beating your drum.

Two spirits are out there
Striving to get men's ears.
Evil will the world snare;
They'll listen and give cheers.

Some will listen to us,
For they are from God too.
The Spirit of Jesus
Will reveal who is true.

Greater is He in me
Than he that's in this world.
From all eternity
Will all rivals be hurled.


Verses 7-12

Let us love one another,
For its clear, love comes from God,
And if we love our brother,
We know we've been born of God.

Whoever does not have love
Cannot know the God above
Whatever he's thinking of,
For our God's a God of love.

God is love He made it clear,
He sent One He loved most dear.
He His only Son did give
That through Him we all might live

If there's no love within us,
God in our lives is not known.
God showed His love in Jesus
Sending Him from heaven's throne.

God is love its clear to see
For time and eternity.
On the hill of Calvary
Jesus gave his life for me.

Jesus loved this world so,
He paid the ultimate price.
He came down to us below,
And died as our sacrifice.

Since its true God has loved us
With love that's like no other,
Let us follow Lord Jesus,
And truly love each other.

No one has ever seen God
Walking any earthly street,
But if we will love's path trod,
God's love in us He'll complete.



Verses 13-21

We know that we live in Him
Higher than the Seraphim,
Yet He came to dwell in us,
Savior of the world-Jesus.

If we acknowledge this Son
Is the true and Holy One,
He will live within our heart,
And will never from us part.

God is love and always He
Will be love eternally.
Those who will live now in love
Will live forever above.

Love fills us with confidence
As we dwell in His presence.
We can face the judgment day
With all fear driven away.

Perfect love drives out all fear,
Fills our hearts with grateful cheer;
On the cross Christ took our pain
Penalties are pain, its plain.

We love, but He loves us first,
For our sin our Lord was cursed.
Hating one for whom He died
Means within our hearts we've died.

God has given this command,
And forever it will stand,
If our love for Him is true,
We must love our brother too.

If our brother we don't love,
We can't love the Lord above.
If we can't love those we see,
Love for Him, unseen, can't be.





I JOHN CHAPTER FIVE


Everyone who believes
That Jesus is the Christ,
This honor he receives,
Honor that can't be priced.

He's born of God on high.
He loves Father and Son.
He'll always do or die
Till God commands are done.

This is how we show love
To the Father above.
We obey His commands,
For light are His demands.

This is our victory
That all the world can see.
This world we overcome
By our faith in the Son.

This is the one who came
By water and the blood.
Jesus Christ is His name;
Our world with love did flood.

Spirit and water-two,
And blood joins to make three.
They testify to you
On Jesus they agree.

He is God's only Son.
They testify its true.
Believe He is the One
Who came and died for you.

God gave eternal life,
And this life's in His Son.
In the Son you have life;
Outside Him you have none.


Verses 13-21

I write these things to you
Who believe in His name.
In Him you know its true,
To give you life He came.

Of this we can be sure,
Our prayer he'll always hear.
In Him we are secure
If His will we revere.

If a brother you see
Not sinning unto death.
His intercessor be,
Do not withhold your breath.

Pray that he will have life,
And overcome his sin;
Gain victory over strife;
Be renewed from within.

All wrongdoing is sin,
But some is more severe.
Over most we can win,
If we will persevere.

We know those born of God
Will in sin not remain.
Evil can't on them trod,
For they're under God's reign.

Children of God are we.
We're under His control.
In this world we can see
Sin reigns from pole to pole.

But evil can't undo
What Jesus did for me.
So I'll ever be true,
And from idols keep free.
