In Red China, Christianity has been under attact. It's illegal. Why? Because for them the state is supreme. For the communists there is no god higher than the state.

"You shall have no other gods before Me." -Exodus 20:3

Red China will allow, however, state sanctioned churches. Like the liberal churches in our country, they do not preach the true gospel, and hence not an enemy of the state. My late mother called liberal churches "social clubs."

Today, unbiblical churches weaken the faith and help enable stateism. They don't follow God's Word. Many churches today say same sex marriage is OK. Recently, the Methodist church had a fight over preaching that homosexuality is wrong. Pastors were not allowed to preach the Biblical view that God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. Fidelity to God prevailed, and pastors were free to follow the Bible, and not human reasoning.

The Presbyterian church didn't fare so well in the late 1920's. "In the 1920s, the mainline Presbyterian church struggled with liberalism. J. Gresham Machen set the terms of the debate with his book Christianity and Liberalism. He argued the liberalism teaches not a lesser form of Christianity, but an entirely different religion." -Westminster Theological Seminary website.

Princeton, once a sound seminary connected with the Presbyterian church, included board members tolerant of liberalism. They poisoned the faith by training ministers who reflected the views found in mainline Presbyterian churches. Because of his views, Dr. Machen was not only kicked out of Princeton Seminary, but his church found him guilty of insubordination and stripped him of his credentials as a minister. Sounds a bit like Red China, huh?

"Machen left the prestige of Princeton to stand for the truth of the Bible. He knew that theological compromise would harm the spiritual power of the church", Westminister's website states.

In the 1920s, the church lost influence on society because it stopped preaching the truth of the gospel. By the 1920s, the United States became more socialistic. Our nation was governing under the influence of progressivism, which is a gradual approach to socialism/communism. It had devistating economic affect on everyday people. Normal working men had to leave their families and hop trains to find food and work. Society became more cruel. Railroad Dicks brutalized these guys when they caught these "hobos" trying to hop a train or found in a boxcar. By the way, a hobo is not a bum. A hobo is someone out of work who is looking for work. A bum is someone who doesn't want to work.

Unable to get Princeton on the right track, Dr. Machen went across the river to start Westminister Seminary, joined by bright, Godly professors who also had a problem with the apostasy of Princeton.
