The Cost of COVID Hysteria

Although government restrictions have been somewhat loosened on rules for gathering during Covid, some people are imposing rules on themselves, driven by the media mania distortion. They appear to have Stockholm syndrome.

As I mentioned in my last blog, only one church in southern Bucks County, PA has been hosting dine in meals for the homeless and those in need. These meals are more than a meal, but a ministry where churches can present the gospel, by reading scripture and by reaching out to people to show their Christian concern. The meals are a place where people meet and become friends. The share each other's lives and concerns.

A few years ago, I met a good Christian woman at the meals and we are still seeing each other. We are seriously considering getting married one day. We go to church together and study the Word together.

Christians should be influencing the world, especially now. In many cases, the world is infecting Christians with its hysteria. Christians should be light and salt in the world! "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." 2 Timothy 1:7

In Bucks County, PA, where I live, secular, worldly entities, which generally have a different world view than the church, are competing with the Christian influence. All people have problems. It's a matter of kind and degree. In my experience, I found that worldly places lump all the homeless together. Before they get to know them, they label them as being mentally ill, a misnomer (it's not a physical problem). At least a high percentage of people without homes are assigned this behavior. I've referred to inititatives in Bucks County, where the homeless are put into a kind of caste system, from which it's hard to break free, as "Bucks Builds Bums/Build A Bum."

Churches can offer something better than does the world. At the homeless meals, people from the church develop relationships with the homeless and needy; they know each other's names. Many of the guests talk about various problems with the hosts, and the guests with one another. They share each other's burdens and joys.

At the to-go meals, there is little interaction. It's not even eat and run, it's grab and go, except sometimes for brief conversations with the hosts and between guests. Recently, hosts who gave out meals to go prayed with the "guests."

"We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God." -2 Corinthians 5:20

As Christ's ambassadors, guests get to see what Christianity is all about. Some guests are either not familiar with church or have a distorted view of the church. The dine in meals are a great ministry to bring people into the church. At most dine in meals, the hosts invite the guests to their church, or any church for that matter.

It's important to find a sound church which has a strong fidelity to the Bible.

The dine in homeles meals play an important part in the Great Commission. "Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.'” -Matthew 28:16-20
