I disrespect you by talking back, wanting to get my way.

The path I’ve chosen, from behind bars I look
All the things you taught me, the ways of God I forsook

WHEN
I allow promiscuity make me a parent too soon
My room is no longer mine, it’s become the baby’s room.

Mama don’t cry, to me your tears are beginning to look red
Your falling tears have become unnecessary bloodshed.

I thought I was grown, something within me cried out and told me to go
Mama, please don’t cry, I didn’t mean to hurt you so.

Mama, you’ve shed too many tears for too many years,
Mama, your eyes you must dry, for now it’s my turn to cry.
