The Tower of Babel, plain and simple, was an act of rebellion against God,
Babylon consistently appears in the Bible as a structure that was flawed.
First, when mankind rebels against God right after the Great Flood,
God told humanity to spread throughout the earth but there was bad blood.
They decided to stay put and in defiance build a tower to the sky,
This was a blatant act of rebellion and a powerful symbol to defy.
Now the whole world had one pure language and an uncorrupted speech,
But this was being changed that had devastating consequences and outreach.
As people moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there,
and decided to construct a tower as they thought it was just and fair.
They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them in the sun,”
They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar first as a trial run.
So the construction project passed the test and there was a suitable mix,
To produce a large tower never seen before shaped out of stone bricks.
Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tall tower,
This will showcase to everyone around that we have dominion and power.
It must reach to the heavens, so that we may make ourselves good names,
But God saw that good names this wasn’t and rebuked their evil claims.
The people thought they would be scattered over the face of the earth,
This would eventually come to pass breaking there plans and self-worth.
So, the Lord came down to see the city and the tower under construction,
His mind now made up to scatter the people and the tower for destruction.
The Lord said, “If speaking the same language, they have begun to do this,
then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them to resist.”
“Come, let us go down and confuse their language in sister and brother,”
So, they will not understand their leaders, family and each other.”
So, the Lord spoke with power and scattered them over all the land,
and they stopped constructing the city and the tower failed to expand.
This is why the city was called Babel as the Lord confused the entire land,
and the language of the whole world was muddled and mixed first-hand.
From there the Lord he dispersed them over the face of the whole earth,
They took their foreign gods with them while they settled giving birth.
They built the Tower of Babel to shake a defiant fist up towards the sky.
In doing so, they wrote the demise of one language and one will to abide by.
Hence the reasons why we have so many languages today and false Gods,
and humankind is always fighting each other, squabbling and at odds.
What is the deeper meaning of the Tower of Babel for mankind on a whole?
Well, the Tower of Babel was a rebellion against the Lord and their true goal.
Nimrod ordered the construction of the Tower of Babel to be proud and high,
It was to be a structure tall enough to withstand another worldwide flood.
Nimrod had completely forgotten what the purpose of the flood was for,
God sent a worldwide flood because of the earth’s vast wickedness he saw.
Nimrod shakes his fist at God saying “I will do it my way which is best,”
“I’ll create a structure so high that even you can’t destroy me or test.”
He tries to equate himself with God and as the King to wear the boots,
Not to mention, the ziggurat complex structure had deep pagan roots.
like the people pre-Flood, the people of Shinar engaged in worldly things,
Which rubbed off on the leaders and the powerful cities anointed kings.
Furthermore, the people of Babel didn’t follow the command to spread,
God didn’t want people in one place He required the earth populated instead.
They settled in Shinar, in direct disobedience to Gods Word and command,
and began to build a structure they hoped would be a monument in the land.
This story matters because when we see mankind trying to go his own way,
God hates disobedience, the purpose of humanity is to serve the Lord and obey
Salvation only comes through God, we can’t continue to live in sin,
or create our own “Tower of Babel” for ourselves, hoping to prosper and win.
We can’t craft a structure high enough to avoid the wrath of the Lord,
We have to bend the knee, take up the cross, and be fully in one accord.
Maybe we don’t build physical mud-brick ziggurat structures today,
but we do often try to create our own Tower of Babel and go our own way.
Many think through good works we can build a structure high to the sky,
As once saved always saved means we can sin but for me, it doesn’t apply?
Yet we learn that God doesn’t work that way and a tower can’t save us.
We need to find salvation through Him and not test the Lord or cause a fuss.
Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ,
and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit for His timely sacrifice.
Today what remains of the tower of Babel are its foundations and banks,
so, let us remember past wrongdoings repent, pray and give the Lord thanks.
