The crass, commercial counterfeit Christmas may be officially over, but the worldly materialism continues to pollute society. Although people have a phobia for catching the Corona virus - intensely wiping off shopping carts, even, in one case, a customer wiped the wheels - it doesn't stop them in their quest for material things. Although in some instances the amount of people allowed to gather is very limited, at some retail stores the space is very crowded with people passionately, frantically shopping, and not just for small stuff. I've seen customers buy giant TVs. In one case, a TV was so big, an employee had to help the customer get it out to their car. It was certainly too big for a shopping cart!

Some of the customers run around like mad hatters, chasing after material things like the white rabbit.

A few years ago, someone asked me "why is everybody so messed up?" The Bible has an answer to that.

Karl Marx said the only nexus between people is "callous cash payment" , and he blamed capitalism. He didn't understand the root of the problem. Decades ago a pastor told me that Marx was wrong in saying that capitalism caused evil; the problem is the evil in men's hearts, he charged. As Jesus said, the root of all evil is the love of money.

In an old Beatles' song from The Sergeant Pepper album, parents wonder why their daughter ran away from home. "We gave her everything that money can buy!"

Parents wonder why their kids end up on drugs. A popular explaination is that it is a disease. Politicians and other members of the establishment, including some drug rehabs, have been spouting that drug addiction is a disease. A represenative in a recent ad chirped that drug addiction "was not your choice" and said that the rehab he was promoting can help people who engage in the voluntary slavery of drug addiction kick the habit.

The church and Christian ministries have been helping people have victory over the besetting sin of drug addiction. You cannot heal what you conceal. Once an addict admits the root of the problem is a character flaw, and that it was a sinful choice and goes to God to have the power to overcome the sin, then healing takes place.

"All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right." -2 Timothy 3:16. This is what it's all about, Alfie!
