This is the fourth and final study in the Book of Isaiah. The fourth thread that runs throughout this prophetic book is one of judgment. This is not a popular subject, but nevertheless, it will happen in God’s timing.
Verses on judgment begin in 2:11-12. “The proud look of man will be abased, and the loftiness of man will be humbled...For the Lord of hosts will have a day of reckoning, against everyone who is proud and lofty, and against everyone who is lifted up.” This is reiterated in 2:17 and 5:15.
The time is coming when God will “put an end to the arrogance of the proud, and abase the haughtiness of the ruthless”(13:11).
God has planned “...to defile the pride of all beauty, to despise all the honored of the earth”(23:9). He says “Woe to those who deeply hide their plans from the Lord, and whose deeds are done in a dark place. They say ‘who sees us, or who knows us?’” Woe to those “who execute a plan, but not mine, and make an alliance, but not of my spirit”(30:1).
God “reduces rulers to nothing, who makes the judges of the earth meaningless“(40:23), and “woe to the one who quarrels with his maker”(45:9).
“Listen to Me, you stubborn-minded, who are far from righteousness”(46:12). “Behold, the Lord’s hand is not so short that it cannot save, neither is his ear so dull that it cannot hear. But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he does not hear”(59:1-2).
“I have spread out my hands all day long to a rebellious people who walk in the way which is not good, following their own thoughts, a people who provoke me to my face”(65:3-3). “They have chosen their own ways, and their soul delights in their abominations. So, I will choose their punishment, and I will bring on them what they dread, because I called but no one answered. I spoke but they did not listen, and they did evil in my sight, and chose that in which I did not delight”(66:3-4).
Therefore, “all mankind will come to bow down before Me,” says the Lord.
Question: Have you humbled yourself before God?
