The Victory is the Lord's

You need not fight this battle. Take up your positions, stand firm, and see the salvation of the LORD on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged…2 Chron 20:17a BSB

With all the victory we see in God's word, the odds were overwhelmingly against those who trusted in the Lord. God's people felt overwhelmed and unarmed as the ruler of this world sought to destroy them. Many, like Gideon, Moses, and others, were fearful, felt less than, unable, and ill-equipped.

In common, they first had to realize that they were powerless in their own strength and did not know what to do. All eyes were finally turned to the Lord in expectation and hope.

For we are powerless before this vast army that comes against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon You." 2 Chron 20:12b BSB

They praised, focused on, and sang about God's steadfast love that endures forever, and the enemy's walls came falling down.

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever. Psalm 136:1 ESV

They prayed fervently as Jesus did when His Father used the cross as the most significant victory of all time.

Think of Daniel, Kind David, and Joseph, who faced overwhelming odds and walked to victory in faith, focused on God's undying love. It was their realization of their powerlessness and weakness that led them to place all of their hope and trust in God finally.

In Paul's entire ministry, the odds were always significantly against him, and he learned to boast only in his weakness, and Christ crucified, precisely so the power of Christ would dwell in him. 

"My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. 2 Cor 12:9b NAS 

Dear Lord, today, I turn my worries and fears into prayers and set my eyes and all of my hope upon you. I cry out for your help and praise you and your enduring love. When I am weak, I know You are strong. I know You will not fail us. The victory is yours, Lord. Amen
