The Trust That Leads to Guidance

In this new year, we will face situations that may challenge us, perhaps leaving us perplexed at a crossroad of decision. No matter how smart, strong, and successful we are, we are actually weak and far from perfect. We desperately need someone greater than us. Someone who is perfectly good, loving, and wise. God is that someone. He always knows best and with him, nothing is impossible.  Proverbs 3:5-6, a book in the Bible famous for its wisdom, calls us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts instead of depending on our own understanding. We are to acknowledge him in every area, and he will guide us.

But how do we do this? We admit our own perception is skewed, incomplete, and prone to corruption by self-interest. We discard our own ways and ideas and align our affections and intentions entirely with God’s. Dependence on his wisdom alone and the understanding that accepting his guidance will bring us the greatest joy and satisfaction, then flow naturally from our hearts and minds. We recognize his absolute, infinite superiority and his authority over every area of our lives and come to him about everything. No detail is so small that it escapes his concern. As we embrace these truths, are hearts are purified and we hear him more clearly when he directs our paths.

But we cannot have this kind of a relationship with God unless we first turn from our stubborn ways and submit ourselves to his Son, Jesus Christ who came to this earth to die for our sins. When we trust him in this way, we will have his companionship, love, and guidance now and for all eternity.

PRAYER: Father in heaven, thank you for sending Jesus so we can live for you and experience your love and guidance. I receive him as my Lord and Savior. Amen
