Prayer cannot be overemphasized for the believer. Every believer should be men and women of prayer…we have no choice not to be. Today, I will share some things that prayer does as follows:

1. Prayer prepares you.

Luke 22:41-43
41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,

42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

43 And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.

Just before Jesus was crucified, He spent some time praying to prepare Him for what He was about to do. And we see in verse 43 that an angel appeared to strengthen Him.

2. Prayer preserves you.

Matthew 26:41
Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Jesus gives an instruction here. Yes, you are a man or woman of God, but watch and pray so you will not enter into temptation.

3. Prayer edifies you.

1 Corinthians 14:4
He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

As you pray, you are edified; you are built up.

4. Prayer produces results.

James 5:16
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

The amplified version of the text above says that prayer makes tremendous power available. The believer never lacks power; the Holy Ghost resides in him, but he makes power available in prayer.

So there you have it, what prayer does! I hope with these few points of mine that I have been able to convince you on why you should get to praying not just for a day, but on a daily basis.
