THE MAN BORN BLIND

As I was preparing to teach a Bible Study on the Gospel of John, Chapter 9, I asked the Lord why He spit in the dirt, made mud and placed it on the blind man’s eyes.  It was different from the “usual” way Jesus healed people.  Why didn’t He just speak, “Be healed,” or touch the man’s eyes?

Immediately, the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart with His answer.  I love how quickly He always responds, because He wants us to know. 

We were all made from the dust of the earth.  The blind man in John 9 was born blind.  His eyes had not been fully created in his mother’s womb.  Therefore, Jesus corrected that by taking a little more dirt to fix the man’s eyes.  Doing so also revealed what Jesus meant in John 9:3 when He said:

Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.


The Gospel of John was written in Greek, and the Greek word for “works” is érgon (Strong’s G2041/noun), which means business or that which one occupies himself with. 


The Greek word for “displayed” is phaneróō (Strong’s G5319/verb).  It means manifest, visible, and made known.

The man who was born blind was born that way in order for the works of God to be displayed in him and made known to us.  His lack was a catalyst for restoration and wholeness.  God always has restoration and healing on His mind. He occupies Himself with it because healing is not only what He does, but who He is.  One of His names is Jehovah Rapha (The Lord Who Heals).  

In that moment, this one revelation revealed a whole new way for me to think and to pray.

Quite a revelation the Holy Spirit made to you concerning Jesus making mud from dirt and spittle to put upon the man's eyes. I truly would call this an "eye opener." Thanks for sharing this message. God bless you!
