When presented with the task of taking over for his father King David, Solomon did not act like he knew everything. He was honest with himself and God and admitted his weakness “as a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.” 1 Kings 3:7b KJV.
He admitted he could only rely on God’s wisdom and prayed for an understanding heart: “Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?” 1 Kings 3:9 KJV
By admitting his weakness and fully relying on God, he opened the door for the power of God to rest upon him. Solomon was greatly rewarded with what he asked for and more. The part I like most is that God also gave him largeness of heart.
And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore. 1 Kings 4:29 KJV
God is all about largeness of heart. Even the Spirit (the intent, reason His laws were given) of all of God’s laws is “love” – Rom 13:8-10. We see Jesus walking by the Spirit of the law (love) bringing life and not the letter of the law like the Pharisee’s, as he saved the woman caught in adultery, spoke of the good Samaritan, healed on the Sabbath and died for His enemies. Jesus gave us a perfect picture of our Father, only doing as our Father does. This is how large our Father’s heart is for us.
I think we can safely say that when it comes to largeness of heart, our heavenly Father is unmatched. But if we ask, I am certain he will share this with us so we can share it with others.
Father, I want to be just like you. Give me your largeness of heart in all situations. Amen
Many more New Covenant Bible Studies HERE. Jesus poured out His blood for the New Covenant of grace and truth, replacing the Old Covenant law of Moses. Believers are exclusively under the New Covenant, the last will and testament of Jesus that began after the cross.
And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, "This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood. Luke 22:20
