Suicide, or Joy Inside?

     Do you feel like life has no logical purpose?  Do you feel too weathered and weary to go on?  Is your life a living nightmare, like you are just going through the motions…as though you are walking through a waking dream?  Are you so tired of striving and never feeling satisfied?  Are you trying to fill that hole in your heart with…well, stuff, but just can’t seem to do it?  In short, do you wish you were dead?  Worse yet, are you contemplating suicide? That's what a life without Jesus as your Savior is like.

     You may not realize it, but Christ has His eye on you, or else He wouldn’t have led you to read this piece.  Yup, it is no coincidence you are reading this right now.  To be sure, Jesus has watched the tears trail down your cheeks so very many times, and He’s wept with you.  He also knows that hole in your soul all too well and has longed to fill it with peace.  His peace.  Believe me, it breaks His heart that you are hurting so badly and that you can’t see the point in living. 

     But believe me, my friend, if Jesus didn’t love you, He would never have let you be born.  He never wanted life to turn out this way for you, and He longs with all His heart to set your life anew.  What He wants is to not only save your life, but to make your life worth living.  So, He’s imploring you right now to take your tears to Him, and He’ll turn them into tears of joy.

     Yes, He wants you to have a new life…one with boundless possibilities and joy.  For in the Bible, Jesus says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give You a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11).  That’s right.  God has a plan for your life—if only you’ll let Him.  The Scriptures go on to say, “In Your (God’s) presence is fullness of joy, and at Your (God’s) right hand are pleasures for evermore” (Psalm 16:11).  Indeed, Jesus loves to bless us, just so He can see us smile!

       Jesus…Wants…You…  He wants you right now, too.  And He also wants to spend endless summer days with you in eternity.  In heaven.  And He wants to give your life some purpose—NOW!!!

     So, what is heaven really like?  Or is it all just a bunch of fluff meant to comfort the downcast and the dying?  For starters, God’s Word says, “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him” (1 Corinthians 2:9)!  But that’s just grazing the surface.  For example, God’s children will never have to grow old and die again (John 3:16).  Eternal life means eternal youthfulness, beauty, and health, just as Adam and Eve possessed when they were created before the Fall from grace fouled up everything (Genesis 1:27).  This means no more catching a cold, no more broken bones, and no more lonely lives one day. 

     In heaven, we will be in perfect form.  We’ll have new bodies, just like the one Jesus got when He was raised from the dead (Philippians 3:21).  That’s right, pard’ner!  We will inherit eternal, spiritual bodies that can still pig out on potato chips (Luke 24:41,42), yet possess the ability to walk through walls as Jesus did (John 20:19)!  Yup!  “Beam me up, Scottie” from Star Trek will finally be achieved.  Awesome, ain’t it?!

     And those tear-stained cheeks of yours…well, Christ will wipe them away permanently.  For the Bible promises, “And God shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying; and there shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away” (Revelation 21:4).  So, in heaven, sorrow will never know another tomorrow…which translates into eternal lives of pure bliss.

      But is heaven just floating around on a cloud all day while playing a harp?  Nope.  Worship will be part of it, true, sort of like partying with God.  But there will be oh, so much more to enjoy.  I mean, think of it:  God created an entire cosmos for us to inherit and explore.  Everything Jesus is going to inherit, we will, too (Romans 8:17)!  And get this: As God’s children, we will be kings and queens forever (1 Peter 2:9)!  And who knows what fantastic things God is going to create for us to rule over—maybe entire planets even!  And as it befits royalty, we will all inherit our very own mansions (John 12:2).  And as if that weren’t enough, God’s people will receive rewards, too—even for little things like offering a stranger a smile, or a cup of cold water to someone who is thirsty (Matthew 10:42).

     Isn’t that worth living for, my battered and bruised friend?  I’m not saying, “Get a life!”  I’m saying, “Get a life…and get an after life, too!!!

     So, buddy, Jesus has a spiritual lasso around you…won’t you please let Him reel you in?  I mean, He loves you so much, or He wouldn’t have moved me to write you all this.  Yes, it took time and effort to put this together, but Jesus loves you so much, He urged me to put pen to paper, jot it all down, and send it to you, sealed with a kiss.  Why does He love You?  Well…simple.  To Him, you are unique, special, worth knowing, and incredibly awesome.  He likes you!  He really does…

     So, stop all this striving and give God a chance to prove He cares.  Let Him bestow upon you the one thing He wants most for you, that is, to share eternity with you in the future, and to share His life with you right now.  But there’s one thing stopping this from happening: sin. “…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).  And sin separates us from having a relationship with a holy God.  But God wants a relationship with you, anyway—BADLY!!!  So, the good news is that if you invite Jesus to be your Savior, you can know God personally.  If you’re interested, just say this simple prayer:

     “LORD, You’re right…I am a sinner.  And I believe You died on the cross to pay the penalty for my, sins so I would never know the horrors of hell for all of eternity.  Please be my Savior?  I invite you right now into my heart.  Amen.”

     If you said that prayer, know this: God will henceforth provide for you always (Philippians 4:19) and bless you in so many ways.  Your death sentence has been commuted by God now to an eternal life sentence of pure bliss.

     Now, just because you did that, it doesn’t mean life will always be a jaunt down the garden path.  Some of the roads will be rocky, but God will only allow trials in your life that will chisel your character, to make You more like Jesus.  As it is written: “And we know that all things work together for good to them who love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.  For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son” (Romans 8:28,29).  No, you won’t be a clone of Jesus—you’ll just be like Him in integrity.

     Finally, if you have truly joined the family of God by inviting Jesus to be your Savior, get a Bible and start reading it at the Book of John.  That Book helps people get a real take on what Jesus is really all about.  And find a church you feel welcomed in.  And in that church, you’ll meet brothers and sisters who love you upon first sight…just as God did when you were only in His imagination!
