"I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, Deut 30:19 NASB
We are all born heirs of Adam’s fallen Sin nature that leads to death.
For as through the one man's (Adam) disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the One (Jesus) the many will be made righteous. Rom 5:19 NASB
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned-- Rom 5:12 NASB
Last Will and Testament
I am sure you have heard of a last will and testament, where a person lists how their assets will be disbursed upon death. The word testament means will or covenant. We have the Old Testament and the New Testament in the Bible. The Bible contains two wills of the deceased, Adam and Jesus.
Being made sinners by Adams disobedience in Rom 5:19 that we just read, means we are under the Adams will, inheriting Adams Sin nature and all that goes with it, including condemnation and death.
A will does not go into effect until the death of the author.
Adams Will
The inheritance of those who are born and die under Adam is found in Genesis 3:16-19.
Hatred between Satan and Eve and her descendants.
Painful childbirth for women.
Marital strife.
The soil cursed with thorns and thistles.
Life and survival will be a struggle.
Death will be inescapable.
This fate applies to all who have ever been born except Jesus who was born of God by the Holy Spirit. The virgin birth was a necessity.
There is no way for man to escape his fate apart from God. The only answer is to be born-again under Jesus. God freely offers this to all who will believe.
Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3 NASB
Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born, can he?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. “Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ “The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” John 3:4-8 NASB
This is Jesus answer to Nicodemus as to how a person is born-again by faith.
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16 KJV
Jesus Will
Jesus wrote a will too that went into effect upon His death. It applies to all who choose to be born-again under Him. Under Jesus will, we inherit eternal life and the wealth of God. We are co-heirs with Christ in all He inherits.
Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you. Luke 22:20 KJV
And for this cause he (Jesus) is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. Heb 9:15 KJV
Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God. Gal 4:7 NASB
The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, Rom 8:16-17a NASB
in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. Heb 1:2 NASB (Believers are co-heirs of all things including this world and the universe.)
And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's descendants, heirs according to promise. 3:29 NASB
For the promise to Abraham or to his descendants that he would be heir of the world was not through the Law, but through the righteousness of faith. Rom 4:13 NASB
All who decide to choose life, place their faith in Jesus righteousness and are born again under Him as co-heirs of the Kingdom of God.
