The door slammed shut in her face. The last words she heard were fading behind the door. There was nowhere to go and the night was dark. Her hopes were dashed.
Two days earlier Sheila had turned 18. This meant no rules. Hooking up with three girlfriends Lorraine, Natalie and Nicole, the foursome boarded the freedom train. The destination was unspecified. It never dawned on them that this journey would lead them to be at the mercy of the world.
As she slumped to the ground Sheila recalled her father’s last words, “Life can be a merry go round, but one day the merry go round will come to a stop.” Those words wouldn’t stop ringing in her hand.
The day they boarded the train seemed like heaven. Who could stop them now? That trip was going to be the defining moment in each of the girls’ lives. Lorraine started hitting on the handsome train conductor, hoping that they could at least get a sleeper coach. As fate would have it the young hunk gave them what they wanted.
Little did they know that the coach they got was going to change their lives. Unbeknown to them the original owners of that coach had somehow missed the train at the station and the young hunk wishing to impress these charming 18 year old hotshots had scored the worst own goals of his life. The owners had managed to get onto the train at the next station and they had business they needed to take care of. And that business was these girls.
Sheila came to after a few hours barely clothed, Lorraine was dead, and Natalie and Nicole were nowhere to be seen. The conductor was hanging from the roof. What had happened?
Just then she heard the door open. It was 2.15am. How could this be? Right there in her face was Lorraine. Things didn’t make sense at all. Lorraine led her to one of the rooms in the house. Natalie and Nicole were there both unconscious. This was a new world to her; how she got into this world she had no idea.
Sheila drifted into a deep sleep and she had what seemed a nightmare to her. The train stopped at a station and in came four strange men. These men came to where the four girls were and knocked on the door. Lorraine got up to open the door, said a few hushed words to them, closed the door and returned to her seat. After a while another knock was heard on the door.
Before they could respond the young hunk was bundled in with a gun to his head. Lorraine made a pass for the door and was knocked out by a blow to the head. Suddenly the men made a grab for Sheila and she was out cold. Then she woke up gasping for air. It was just a nightmare.
As the morning dawned Sheila thought about her a dream. Suddenly one of the men from the dream came into the room demanding that she get up. As she was shoved out of the room she realised that the dream she had just woken up from was real
The man bundled her into the trunk of a car and drove off. After a while the car came to a halt with gunshots, police sirens and commotion everywhere. Someone opened the trunk and pulled her out. She saw the smiling relieved face of her father. He grabbed and hugged her tightly as tears flowed from his cheeks.
Later on at a police station Sheila was told that her friend Lorraine had been hired by the four men to lure young girls who would later be sold into prostitution. Had she not been found Sheila would have been shipped to a far off country and sold off to the highest bidder. Lorraine had escaped with the other three men, Nicole was found and Natalie was alive but barely conscious. Right there and then Sheila realised that freedom had a price. The grown up world was not as exciting as she thought. She had had a rough welcome into the age of adulthood.
