I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.
Approximately One hundred and fifty thousand people die daily, they bid farewell to their abode on this earth and head towards eternity, what would be the summary of their life? Their testimony? Or their legacy?
Before He was arrested and crucified, this is what the Lord Jesus prayed to the heavenly Father:
“I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.”
John 17:4 NKJV
What a peace, what a solace to know that the very purpose of one’s existence on this earth has been fulfilled before one departs to eternity.
Many are unaware of the purpose, many regret not having been able to accomplish their goals and few who are assured of the accomplishment of their God given purpose in life are the ones who truly ‘rest in peace’.
If we know our calling and the One Who called us, we will not fail to understand that along with the calling, God has also provided us with all the required means and resources to accomplish His perfect will in our life.
What is it that has spoiled our testimony? What has hindered our path to accomplish God’s will in our life?
- We have misused our God given resources:
- Our time has been wasted away in vain pleasures and amusements,
- We have wasted our money and other similar resources with wrong investments in vain glory and worldly pleasures.
- We have been unavailable to explore and utilize the opportunities and circumstances God brought into our life to glorify Him.
And as we head near to the end, we know and understand how we wasted our days, yet if our breath is still in our favor and our soul seeks a restoration, if our mind desires to be back to its senses, let’s return to God, let’s seek His will in our life and endeavor all the more to fulfill it.
We too will have a day to testify and on that day with joy overflowing our soul, let us tell the Lord…. “I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do” as was said by our Lord.
God Bless,
Abraham

As the Westminster catechism says "The chief end of man is to glorify God and to enjoy him forever."
I have a friend who has had cancer for a few years. Occasionally, she said she just wants the Lord to take her. I told her God keeps you in His time, and that she has a purpose, although we don't always know what it is. I explained to her that she is there to admonish me when I harbor resentment against people who have wronged me, and that I shouldn't gloat when something bad happens to them. She's also made me realize more that we have intrinsic value, made in the image of God.
Here at the nursing home where she's been, me camping out here, feeding her, staying by her side is a good witness. The social worker said she was touched that I would do this; that most people practically abandon their loved ones when they come here.
Good article that makes you think, reflect on our purpose in life.
