Christian Living
Our lives are not about us, but rather about the God who is in us. Do we allow Him to work His works in us? When people see our actions, behaviors and lifestyles, do they recognize Jesus Christ in us? We are not the show-piece, God is, “He must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:30, NKJ). Do we realize and take to heart that Jesus Christ is wanting to continue His ministry through our lives that He began some 2,000 years ago.
It is amazing what God will do with our lives if we will let Him be Himself through and in us, instead of us always doing for ourselves and then asking God to bless our doings. Read Genesis 12:1-3 and take note of how God treats and relates to His children. First of all, it was God who initiated His plans with Abraham, not the other way around, “Now the Lord had said to Abram (Abraham): Get out of your country” (Genesis 12:1, NKJ). Are we in a state of heart and mind towards God as Abraham was, being receptive to God, allowing God in His time to do as He wishes with our lives and also fully trusting that He should be the initiator and conductor of all our comings and goings of our lives. We do not work God’s plans and purposes out for God, He works them into us, and then we follow Him in whatever He is working inside of us and outside of us. The disciples followed Jesus and did as He said, Jesus did not follow His disciples. This is the key to seeing God work His works in our lives and also enabling the written word in the Bible, to become the living word within us and in all the circumstances of our lives.
As an example of how God orchestrated the life of Abraham and how He wants to do the same in our own lives, look at all the actions God partakes of on behalf of Abraham, “Go to a land that I will show you” (Genesis 12:1, NKJ), “I will bless you,” “I will make your name great” (Genesis 12:3, NKJ), “I will bless those who bless you,” and “I will curse” (Genesis 12:3, NKJ). Respect God’s order in your relationship with Him that He is the one who is the maker, initiator and conductor of your life and we are to simply receive what He makes, initiates and conducts into our hearts and lives. If we respect God in this way of His working, then He will be acting on our behalf all the time. God initiates, then puts what He is doing into our hearts and then He asks us to trust and believe that He will in fact do, what He initiated in us for Him to do. This is of course if you have solely laid your will alongside God’s will. If not, then this way of God’s working does not apply to you.
It is God’s power and life that are to be on display in our lives, not our own. We are to be in a constant state of receptivity from God, but it does take practice and discipline. The chief end of man is to glorify God. We glorify Him most when we allow God to glorify Himself in us. Let us begin to take and learn of how God worked in His children’s lives in Bible times and then apply these lessons to our own individual relationship with God today and then He will take us most seriously. Delight God’s heart, by letting Him be the orchestrator and conductor in your life from beginning to end. Read, study, and ask God to show you in His word how He worked in His children’s lives in biblical times. He will love this about you and He will also work in the same way.
