"Then Moses said to the LORD, "See, You say to me, 'Bring up this people!' But You Yourself have not let me know whom You will send with me. Moreover, You have said, 'I have known you by name, and you have also found favor in My sight.' "Now therefore, I pray You, if I have found favor in Your sight, let me know Your ways that I may know You, so that I may find favor in Your sight Consider too, that this nation is Your people."
And He said, "My presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest." Then he said to Him, "If Your presence does not go with us, do not lead us up from here, for how then can it be known that I have found favor in Your sight, I and Your people? Is it not by Your going with us, so that we, I and Your people, may be distinguished from all the other people who are upon the face of the earth?" (Exodus 33:12-16)
Have you ever lost your way or have gotten misplaced and needed to stop and ask directions? We all have, I'm sure. However, living in this wonderful technology age is really exciting! All one need do is plug in that GPS system, key in the destination and let it go to work. That is until God's GPS decides to take control of your life.
Thus, my story begins with my faulty GPS system giving me wrong directions, causing me to be late for an all-important business appointment. In fact, I was guided so far off course, I decided to seek a hotel, get a good night's sleep and continue my trip in the morning. I called my customer, apologized and rescheduled my appointment. Wow, I not only got a good night's sleep that night, but I got the dream of my life.
In this particular dream, God's GPS simply took over my life. You see, I was on my way to meet with a client, and was pressed for time when I programmed the GPS. However, the strangest thing happened. The GPS suddenly took on a mind of its own. As I was traveling down the interstate, that all too familiar voice started announcing for me to make a U turn, if safe to do so, and turn around. This announcement continued steadily and seemed to get louder, with each new announcement, even to the point of vibrating on the dash of my car. Then, as if by divine persuasion, I finally gave in and followed the instructions, as the GPS instructed me to travel an out-of-the-way parallel US highway, rather than continue on the interstate.
Due to this bizarre occurrence, my trip took a bit longer than I had anticipated. As I entered my client's office, I caught him pacing rather nervously, back and forth. When I approached him, he literally grabbed and hugged me. Obviously, I didn't know what to think. About that same time, the client's secretary came in shouting for joy.
"Will someone please tell me what's going on?" I exclaimed.
My client then spoke up, "You see, there was a very bad interstate wreck, and one of the vehicles involved fit the description of your vehicle. We knew that it was about the time you would be traveling down that road. And when you didn't show, we just knew something had happened to you. We both just stopped what we were doing and began praying for your safe travel."
"I really thank you for your concern", I replied. "However, I think it was more fate than prayer, as I'm not much into the prayer bit. You see, my GPS probably sensed the traffic jam and rerouted me around the wreck."
"Wait just a minute", exclaimed the secretary. "Let me just read you a verse from the Bible. 'You are the GOD who does wonders; You have made known Your strength among the peoples.' (Psalms 77:14) In other words, God works in mysterious ways, His miracles to perform."
I never knew the conclusion of our meeting, as I awoke suddenly, sweating rather profusely. Was this a dream, a vision or some sort of spiritual insight? Well, I'm not really sure if a Guardian Angel spoke through the GPS or used the GPS satellite to show the traffic jam. What really matters is that I got the message.
And I don't mind telling you, my life surely turned around that day. God got my attention by way of a most unusual chain of events. I know now that God's hand was on me. For you see, if God can use a flashing light from heaven to temporarily blind the Apostle Paul, causing him to lose his balance and fall to the ground as he heard the voice of Jesus, (Acts 9:3-7), He certainly can use the newest technology to prompt my thinking. That day, I realized Gods Grace was not only sufficient to save me but it probably saved me from tragedy. (Philippians 4:7)
Since that fateful day of God's divine intervention, I have spent many an hour burning the midnight oil in comparing the Bible truths to my finding the Savior by way of the GPS instructions. Was this GPS notice not like our lives? The GPS system is designed to communicate with an invisible source in the sky called a satellite. As Christians, we put our faith in the instructions given by an unseen divine GPS logic, known as the living God. (John 20:29)
You see, as an intelligent being, I just needed a little spiritual boost that day to show me I was traveling down the wrong spiritual road. God's GPS instructed me to turn around and travel God's narrow road of full salvation, rather than the wide road of sin. (Matthew 13:14) And like the successful directions given by my GPS, by accepting God's instructions, my eternal destination was changed forever. (John 1:12)
Yes, God's GPS system warned me of a pending traffic hazard that day. Was this not like God's providential guidance for our lives? Within Christian circles there have been many times in which God has redirected or postponed scheduled events, only to find later that if we continued on the way we were going, disaster would have occurred. (Psalm 32:8)
MY GPS ANGEL
I dreamed a dream so wild
Guided by an Angel so mild
My GPS refused to let me go
For another route he did show
On his detour I did finally stay
In safety I came to find my way
My GPS stood right by my side
To help me on his road abide
He opened wings to my delight
To show me his heavenly flight
My angel may never come again
But his help surely was not in vain
Author's Postscript
I trust you realized the spiritual plot behind this fiction blog. And if so, how might you compare it to your life? I'd be interested to know your answer.
Just remember, much like a GPS system that fails to work due to interference within the solar system, there are many times with the children of God in which Satan's powers try to distract us from the all-important attributes of God by getting us to focus on the little side issues. (Ephesians 6:10-11)
Oftentimes our GPS system will seem to lead us down the wrong path, but we later find the path to be true, similar to what happened to me that fateful day. You see, God uses Satan for His benefit, because the attacks of Satan cause us to grow. (2 Cor 3:18)
Unlike the human GPS system, God's divine GPS makes no mistakes. Sometimes, we don't take note of God's advice. When this occurs, we need to stop and yield to God's GPS putting Christ in the driver's seat. (Isaiah 58:9)
A famous preacher once corrected the old bumper sticker cliché, "God Is My Co- Pilot" by stating, "I don't want God to take on the position of Co-Pilot in my life. I want God to be in full command of my life as the Pilot."
