God’s Lavish Love on us is a divine romance
Our relationship with God is meant to be a love relationship; intimate, personal, and deeply satisfying. As women and men we were created to look for God. Our soul’s need is not in this world, but through a relationship with God in Jesus Christ.
Nature despises a vacuum, and human nature does too. People can’t stand that feeling of emptiness. People will fill their soul’s longing for satisfaction (vacuum) in any way possible. They look to others to “fill their emotional cup.” Sometimes people fill that emptiness with unhealthy things—alcohol, drugs, things, money, illicit sex, or thrill seeking, to name a few. I knew people who liked to live in the fast lane through smoking, drinking alcohol, and having several unhealthy relationships.
The only true satisfaction in life comes from God. “Fill us in the morning with your loving kindness. Let us sing for joy and be glad in all our days,” Psalm 90:14.
People have a “God Hole” that only He can fill. We need to have God come and fill our lives on a daily basis. We as people of God want to actively pursue and come to a place where we long for God more than anything else in our lives. God is our soul’s richest food. He wants to romance our soul, so we will know true satisfaction in him.
This concept is so important for our soul’s well-being. It’s our soul that goes on living forever and God wants us to have a fulfilling life in him, now. We were created to look for God and to actively seek him. In John Ortberg’s book, Soul Keeping, he writes, “The “with God” life is not a life of more religious activities or devotions or trying to be good. It is a life of inner peace and contentment for your soul with the maker and manager of the universe.”
Experiencing satisfaction with God is a daily process. He needs to fill our empty cup. We need to pour out our hurts and concerns to him; God is a refuge for us.
We need to remind ourselves that each of us is significant to God. We want to find our delight in him. Other relationships, such as family and friends, provide the overflow.
Just know that we are everything to God. His love is unconditional, it never fails, and it never gives up on us.
