The following was some correspondence between a professing Christian (most likely a false convert) and myself who opposed the idea of "Christian rock music." The name itself is a contradiction I believe but so many who claim to love and follow Jesus have been deceived by the Devil in this matter of music that is pleasing and music that is displeasing to the Lord.

Here I try to explain my thinking to a man who seems to be where I use to be in my thinking. What I mean by rock music is that hard rhythm and beat which carries with it a mesmorizing effect on the senses. Today young people dance to it as in years past and it carries a strong sexual vibration to its composition and sound. In other words it is fleshly, sensual and devilish. We must resist it as much as possible for it does not bring forth good fruit and a closer walk with the Lord. I am not surprised to find opposition on a worldly youtube video but when people within the local religious congregations try to justify some of the disgusting and worldly music coming from those claiming to be Christian musicians I cringe and wonder how Satanic this world has become.

God is holy and He uses Biblically ordained and prescribed means to reach His elect. God isn’t hard up and some think. He can and will save and destroy who He pleases. Yes, God does what He pleases but that is different that thinking man can use what man pleases and say that is God’s method of approval. God never uses pagan music in the Bible for the church to worship Him or to evangelize the lost and nether should Christians or those calling themselves by that name.

but rock is not, i repeat, NOT a pagan music. normal rock is not religious or in any affiliation with paganism or occultism. it is the people who play the music that decide whether it will worship God or not. music, instrumentally, is not good or bad, its only when you add lyrics that it can sway to one side or another. jazz, country, rap, pop, techno, classical, hymnal, rock, or any other type of music genre cannot be considered good or evil until a message is added to it with lyrics.

I have to disagree with you. Jimmy Hendrix said this about music: “I can explain everything better through music. You hypnotize people and when you get people at their weakest point, you can preach into their subconscious what we want to say.” Rock N’ Roll was coined by disc jokey Alan Freed in the early 50’s as an expression of sexual intercourse outside of marriage so the whole foundation of
rock is not Christian. Lyrics aren’t necessary if the beat & style is wrong then the music isn’t good.

ah, but ideas can’t be spoken or transferred through instruments. i can’t make you want to worship God or a pagan idol by playing you a tune. all you hear is music. when you add lyrics to a song, you can make your ideas audible and therefore implant a seed. Now, the instrument can be used for worship, but it depends on whats in the heart of the musician. if they have God in their heart, then it can worship him. if not, then it doesn’t. so i ask you again, are you denying these band’s faiths?

People who are lost are already worshipping Satan and the music they listen to reflects this point. This is why hymns have been the music of the Christian church since the time of Jesus. Most of the contemporary music today passing as Christian is not Christian and is coming from a faith which isn’t of God’s approval- it’s worldly, fleshly and Devilish. 90% of Christian musicians are probably lost and going to hell.

By this I mean to say that 90% of those calling themselves Christian musicians are probably lost and going to hell just like those inside of the church is made up of wheat and tares but mostly tares. Satan has deceived the entire world to where there are very few genuine believers left. Unless God’s Spirit convicts these false converts of their lost condition they’ll continue singing praises to the Devil while thinking they are worshipping God. God will say depart from me. yeah… how do you know that you yourself are saved? is it because you obey God? is it because you believe the bible? is it because you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus died for you? if not the latter, THEN HOW CAN YOU, OR ANYONE FOR THAT MATTER, KNOW? if someone confesses and believes whole heartily that Jesus died to save them, THEN HOW CAN YOU DENY THEM?! if they are faithful to God, then why would you condemn them? Good question. Indeed how does any professing Christian know they are
really saved? There’s not enough space here to answer this properly but if you
will Google "How Is Your Justification Different Than Your Sanctification"
LAStreetPreacher you should find an article I wrote telling the difference
between these two works of the Spirit. In short anybody who has been
justified will also be sanctified to some degree and increasingly more so as
they grow in grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ.
