TITLE: “STAND STILL”
THOUGHT FOR TODAY: I will still my thoughts in prayer before the Lord
SCRIPTURE: Psalm 46:10, "Be still and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. (KJV)"
The hummingbird is a remarkable bird. It is tiny in size; moving from flower to flower like the speed of light. Their quickness gives them beauty and grace. It is also very intelligent; remembering every flower it has been to. The hummingbird even knows how long it takes for a flower to refill with nectar. This amazing bird (depending on its size) not only beats its wings about ten to eighty times per second in a normal flight and about two hundred times per second in a courtship high speed dive. All of these fast motions of its wings create a humming sound. It is the only bird that flies backwards. However, it can also fly sideways, forward, up, down, and even upside down. Seem like the hummingbird has many ways to keep busy. Although, the hummingbird is quick and light on its feet; it takes the time to slow down. Hovering in the air at a seemingly "stand still" position. Moving its wings in a figure eight motion; plotting his next course of action. Not long ago, I watched this fascinating bird hover at the front of my house. Watching God’s creation in action is awe-inspiring.
However, there are times in our lives, the Lord wants us to "stand still or be still." He wants us to go to our special place for the purpose of quieting our spirits to hear from Him. Tuning out the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, which can dull hearing from Him. He would like for us to "hover" in the Word or on our knees in prayer. A stilled spirit, allows the Holy Spirit to illuminate His Word in our minds and hearts. So, that the Lord can speak to our spirits regarding the way we should go. We all have created value. Therefore, the Lord wants us to be in tune to His way and purposes for our lives. The Lord’s way is the way of holiness and righteousness as we face this world. Since, this world is contrary to the things of the Lord.
Thus, to hover takes discipline and perseverance. For the simple fact, we live in a fast paced or should I say...a microwave type world. Where a lot of people do not like to wait or slow down for too long. Nevertheless, the Lord wants us to be still and not allow our lives to get in a foot race with the world. Therefore, Psalm 46:10 states, "Be still and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. (KJV)" When we allow the Holy Spirit to still our heart, mind, and spirit; it is a great place to be with the Lord. Listening to His still, calm, soothing, and gentle voice is awesome. To exalt God is to know that He is God. It does not matter how bleak a situation or circumstance may appear; God is always in control. Peace, Blessings, and Prosperity to you.
