So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Luke 11:9-10 NIV
Do you notice how Jesus can say so much in such few words? These two verses are so power filled that I would like to take three days to discuss them.
Jesus begins by saying ask and it will be given unto you. Then he says that everyone who asks receives. I think we need to understand what the Lord is saying to us here. He is not a genie in a lamp, granting any and all of our wishes.
God knows what is good and what is not good for us. Would a loving Father give to a child something that was to their detriment? I don’t think so. The “problem” here is that we don’t recognize necessarily that which is not good for us. We don’t see all, but God does. What we think we need may be the exact opposite of what we need. Don’t expect God to provide these requests to us.
Some things for which we ask may not be outright bad for us, but, they may not be the best for us. So, will God provide these things when asked for? Maybe. He may wish for us to learn a lesson to increase our wisdom and our dependence upon Him.
When we ask for what is truly good for us, and it glorifies God in the process, then we shall receive. These are the requests of which the Lord speaks herein.
Remember in approaching the Lord in prayer, asking of Him, that He already knows everything you need. Ask that His will for you shall be done. Trust in Him! You shall have that which you need!
