DISTRACTIONS AND DEVOTIONS
This I say for your own benefit, not to put a restraint upon you, but to promote what is appropriate and to secure undistracted devotion to the Lord. 1 Corinthians 7:354 NASB
It this busy and hectic world we live in, it is easy to become distracted. Voices come at us from all sides. Friends and neighbors voices, politicians voices, radio and TV voices, voices in print, and even voices coming from somewhere deep in our subconscious. Those voices inundate us with information, some useful and some just distractions.
We are advised to avoid distractions which interfere with our devotion to our Creator. We are advised to “Pray Constantly”. Praying constantly is an acquired gift which must be nurtured to promote an intimate connection to God. Praying constantly does not rid us of awareness of our surroundings. Praying constantly allows us to overcome the distractions of our mortal life and become attuned to the voice of the Lord. Praying constantly allows us to tell God what we are experiencing, even though He already knows what is going on in our lives. Praying constantly allows us to hear the word and guidance of the Holy Spirit. Praying constantly should become our “road map” through life.
Father, help me to learn how to pray constantly. Help me to hear and understand the guidance you give me through the Holy Spirit. Help me to remain attuned to your “still small voice”. Amen
