In the beginning, before Adam and Eve ever sinned, their only knowledge and understanding of life came from God. Day after day, God fed their minds and hearts with only His wisdom and understanding of life, which in turn, became their own wisdom and understanding of life. They sought nothing outside of themselves for life but only God Himself, because He and who He was and what He did on behalf of Adam and Eve, gave them the full sustenance of their lives. They lacked nothing in and of themselves, because God provided for their all. It was a beautiful picture of how mankind was to relate to God. Completely staying in, and taken in, by the living God.
It was God’s will that Adam and Eve would evolve completely and solely by God’s provision in perfection, as God is perfect. They both would learn to work by God’s wisdom, learn to relate to each other by relating to God and raise children by how God was raising them. They were completely God-conscious. Before the fall, both Adam and Eve had no self-consciousness of themselves at all, and all consciousness they did have was perfect, right, orderly and beautiful, because again, they were solely living out of how God created them to be, God-conscious.
There was no thought in themselves of any evil or wrong, albeit inside or outside themselves, because all they were aware of was God and His perfection. There was also no darkness in God or in any of His dealings with them, thus there was no suspicion of Him or hidden agendas, but just the glory of living a life in and of God. The point is, is that God constituted that Adam and Eve would evolve continuously in life from and in God, with no separation in between. They would evolve in and of God to work, parent and have dominion over the earth and so on. All the while having a glorious and perfect relationship with their Maker. It was God-knowledged and God-blessed the whole way through. Seriously, slowly read and meditate in Genesis chapters 1 and 2 and God will show you what it was like.
Mind you, Adam nor Eve never raised any questions or objections to God or about God, because they were only caught up into a oneness and conscious relationship with Him. Knowledge to them, before the Fall at least, was completely self-evident by interrelating with God and seeing His creation. God was life itself to them and they knew it. They lived from God’s timing and ways, with no impatience or interference, and again, this was to go through eternity. God did not make man to die, but to live. It was man who chose to die (Genesis 3:1-3).
When Adam and Eve chose to seek out life and the knowledge of it, outside of God’s constitution and order, then the Fall happened. Good and evil were facts in the time of Genesis as they are now in our day. It was the separation of knowledge itself outside of God, that was the cause of the Fall of mankind. Once the Fall happened, Adam and Eve became living beings unto themselves, thus they separated themselves from God and from there, they took the very mind, heart and soul God gave to them, to then go and discover good and evil on their own, and also to their own liking, again, separated and without God. Their knowledge was no longer God-given, but rather left up to themselves and consequently, without God’s Spirit within them, they were completely given over to Satan. Now they were to go on and evolve within their own experiences instead of the experiences God had ordained for them and was going to give them. The continuum of their lives was broken, so the tug-of-war between good and evil within man began.
Thus the war between God and Satan over man’s soul, existence and eternal life began. The dreaded questioning of God’s goodness, motives towards man (“Did God really say?”) and Lordship, came into suspicion into the hearts and minds of mankind “For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil”, (Genesis 3:5, NKJ).
Thus man became hesitant towards God. Before the Fall, mankind was ambitious and alive towards God, fully confident and trusting in Him, and in His character. But now we are stunted towards Him, not really sure of Him and the world consequently became full of chaos and confusion. Was bad actually good and good maybe kind of bad, were questions completely in full flux now in the minds and hearts of mankind. Knowledge gained on our own and apart from God when it comes to the meaning of life, is Satanic and dangerous. We were constituted by God to evolve in every facet of our lives as He constituted Adam and Eve to i.e., from Himself, their Maker and Creator. But now we are at the mercy of the devil himself, who controls the very world we are born into (John 14:30). The whole crux of the problem in Genesis chapter 3 (and still is today) in the knowledge of good and evil is two words. “Knowledge of.” Before the Fall, the “knowledge of” God’s goodness and Lordship was never in question because it was all self-evident. But after the Fall, God’s goodness and Lordship is called into question and now everyone is at the whims of the world.
Because of the Fall, in the heart and mind of Adam, it cast a great shadow over God and who He was, because Adam could now have the opportunity to be his own god, knowing for himself apart from God, good and evil. He was now to define good, evil and life for himself, again, apart from God, and we have spiraled downward ever since. Now Adam was only self-conscious, no longer God-conscious. He became self-evident only within himself. God was out. This triggered the great war for the hearts, minds and most importantly, the souls of mankind that has continued since, and will culminate with the second coming of Jesus Christ. All of the goodness God ever gave to man within himself was gone. We became only a remnant of who we were and how God designed us to be.
But God is still God and always will be. Always the same, never changing and can still be the all consuming God He means to be to us. Can we get back to where Adam and Eve originally were before the Fall? Can we be completely healed and mended? We are all now born into Adam, thus into sin “Therefore, just as through one man (Adam) sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned” (Romans 5:12, NKJ). But does this mean we had to lose the consummation that was meant to be between us and God? Can our hearts and minds come back into oneness with God’s heart and mind? Is it possible that we can re-learn the “knowledge of good and evil,” thus life itself, from God only, instead of from this godless driven world? And finally, can we be free to love God, to learn of who God is, have Him teach us as He taught Adam and Eve, and allow God to be to us what He so dearly wanted to be to Adam and Eve throughout their whole lives? Thank God yes, through the second Adam, Jesus Christ our Savior who by His redemption of our lives and souls from sin (the original sin of Adam), He has restored us back to our original glory unto God. We get to begin again with God, where Adam and Eve left off (albeit amongst thorns and thistles, Genesis 3:18). By Christ’s redemption on the cross, we literally are put back into the same relationship that Adam and Eve enjoyed with God before the Fall in Genesis. Now go back to Genesis chapters 1-3 and begin to live with God as Adam and Eve were meant to live. It is simply too good not to be true. This is the “good news” Jesus came to this earth to preach.
