How much money you earn will be in direct proportion to how much service you render to society.
There shouldn't be any mystery about this.
It is much like starting a fire in your fireplace and asking how much heat do you want from that fire?
Let the wood represent your service to society. If you want more heat then you'll need to provide more wood for the fire. If you want less heat then less wood will suffice.
The same is true for how much money you wish or desire.
Here's a truism to remember: "People who refuse to do more than they're paid for will seldom be paid for more than they're doing.
Let's break our title question down to three parts.
1. How much money do you wish to have at retirement?
2. How much money do you wish to have in the bank? AND...
3. How much do you wish to earn per year?
NOTE: At the time of this writing the banks are not paying you much to keep your hard earned dollars in their banks. This is a real financial conundrum when it comes to where to invest your money but I'll try to tackle this question in another article.
Do you wish to have a thousand dollars per month when you retire or would you rather have two, three or four thousand dollars per month?
Would you rather have $5,000 in the bank or would $50,000 be more comfortable for you?
As far as an annual income goes how much money do you wish to bring home each year?
or another way of looking at this question is to ask how much money would make you feel safe and secure?
There are, I would imagine, as many answers to these questions as there are people to answer them.
Just how do you think about money?
Understand this that everybody is worth a certain amount. You are either being paid more than you're worth, exactly what you're worth or less than you're worth.
If you're being paid less than you're worth then it's time to communicate this fact to your employer and try to establish a higher value in his or her mind so you will be fairly compensated.
Now if you are self-employed it's a matter of communicating this fact to the market place so that they will begin to appreciate what your real worth is.
If you are being overpaid for what you're worth then it's just a matter of time before what you are really worth and what you are being paid meet. Don't be surprised if you get a reduction in pay some day.
A man or a woman who invests in a stock certainly doesn't want to pay for overvalued stocks does he? That is what we have today with the stock market PE's (Price to Earnings Ratio) hitting around 25:1 when historically they have been closer to 15:1.
You're either paying more than you should or you're paying exactly what that stock is worth.
A fortunate few of course buy stocks that are under valued, perhaps by as much as 25%.to 50%. Those are the stocks you want to try to find and buy because they're going to make you money.
When you hire somebody you want to invest in somebody who is willing to go over and beyond his call of duty. Somebody who possess the skills to make your business profitable is highly desired and will be offered a higher salary or hourly rate of pay than a person with less skills and who is a less profitable asset to a business.
If you've been wandering through life wasting your money and not really thinking much about how you spend or invest your money then perhaps it is time to change.
Make a list of financial goals.
1. How will you increase your income? There are many ways. HINT: Start a part time home based business. If it starts to do well you may be able to quit your full time job or part time job. Self employment is far more secure than working for another person who may decide they don't need you anymore.
2. How will you save part of your income? It starts with understanding how you value money. If you don't value it then you'll squander it foolishly and end up in the poor house.
If you spend as much as you earn you will always be working and never have enough money to do the things God might want you to do.
3. How will you invest your money? An investment in yourself, your business and God's work is perhaps the best way to put your money to work.
Never think that money is bad or unimportant. This is not a Christian idea.
Money is vitally important. In fact people often misquote the Bible by saying that money is the root of all evil but that is not what the Bible says. The Bible says "The love of money is the root of evil."
