Sabbath 1/28/17 Seventh Day Baptist Daytona Minister Terri sermon “Be Still” Psalm 46:10

Believe it or not…”still” is a verb. A verb is an action word. So to be “still” is being motionless and being silent. When we were young, we were always running around and playing. Our parents had to make us sit down and sit still. We were always playing hopscotch, jumping rope, climbing trees and having a lot of fun. Sometimes our parents would make us come into the kitchen to dry the dishes. This way they knew where we were.

We need to be still so we can hear from God our Father. Sometimes He uses a quiet voice and sometimes He sends an angel to help us. We must be still to hear and see what God has for us. It’s like the story of the man in the flood. God sent a neighbor in a car to save him and the Man said he was waiting for God. Then a guy in a truck and later a guy in a boat came by to save him and the Man said he was waiting for God to save him. The Man drowned in the flood and died. Up in Heaven the Man asked God why He didn’t save him. God said He sent three angels to save him and he refused them. What else could He do?

Let us not get caught up in the “stuff” of life and miss being still to hear God. Sometimes when we are in trouble and in situations, it is hard to be still. We need to give the problem to God and leave it at the altar. Don’t take it back but leave it there and be still to hear what Jesus has for us to do. We need to take a moment to go to a quiet place and be still to hear from God. Don’t be distracted by things around us because somebody (the devil) wants us to be distracted so we don’t get help from God.

God sometimes allows things to happen in our lives so someone else can see God work in our life. It may not be at all for us to see, but someone else to see how God works for us. Being still will lead you to a “testimony” of the greatness and graciousness of God the Almighty. Let your life be the light that God intends it to be. We need to be still to get God’s encouragement. We need to be still to get God’s reasoning. We need to be still to get God’s instructions. Getting God’s encouragement, reasoning and instructions is the best reason to be “still”.

Stand on God’s Word and believe that He is there for us. God is not an absent father like some men are today. God is a Father that is there to take us by the hand and lead us. Sometimes we have to be “still” so we can hear God speaking to us. Be “still” and know that God is our Lord and Father.
