READ FOR YOURSELF: Exodus 5-8
TODAY’S KEY VERSE
And Pharaoh said, “Look, the people of the land are many now, and you make them rest from their labor!” So the same day Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people and their officers, saying, “You shall no longer give the people straw to make brick as before. Let them go and gather straw for themselves. EXODUS 5:5-7 (NKJV)
--THANKS A LOT--
We have heard it said, “the night is darkest before the dawn.” It seems this is how God works in our personal lives. God’s chosen people were in bondage, yet the Lord did nothing to prevent that from happening. Pharaoh ordered the murder of infants, but God did not stop him. The Israelites were still in bondage as their deliverer grew up in a palace, ran away to Midian, and after his big showdown with Pharaoh. Why would God not help them? To add to it, now the one task the Egyptians helped them with they had to do for themselves.
The reason? God’s timing is not ours, which is part of it. But also God knew Pharaoh’s heart was at a point where it was vulnerable if enough pressure was added. The choice to free the Israelites had to belong to Pharaoh. Whatever the reason, God’s desire was for His people to trust Him, no matter the circumstances.
Prayer: Dear God, no matter what circumstances come my way today, help me to trust you. If terrible news comes to my neighbors or me may I hold on to your strong hands. And let it be a moment of testimony to your greatness. Amen.
