Waiting to Kill
The gunfire was immediate as the clock struck midnight on January, 1, 2017.
According to data compiled by the Gun Violence Archive and Vox, there were people waiting to take advantage of the New Year celebration noise and revelry to cover up their evilness. To begin, 210 people were either injured or killed as soon as the old year went out. Some grudges may have been satisfied‒two people were shot in their bed and others killed with no chance to defend themselves. The data showed both young and old felt the violence. The killings did not stop at midnight or “let up as the day wore on.”
We may feel justified in injuring or killing, especially if we received cruel treatment ourselves in life’s hard road along the way. Continued bitterness seeps into our soul if we allow it to linger. Is there something wrong with this picture? It tells me that if people have it in their hearts to kill someone, they will find a way. We may not see life as fragile‒except our own.
Many are suggesting ways we can introduce friendliness, kindness, and other good traits. This is a wonderful thought, and it is a good start. We cannot change our hearts though; wickedness is brought on because our hearts are wicked.
There is a very easy method to replace the wicked fighting, hate, and conflict we see today. Do not wait until people decide to be nice to one another. We ourselves need to get rid of that old self, the one that is mean, ugly, and that feels wretched.
When you finally decide you want a better society, a better world than one in which people are killed and everyone seeks his own way, you should try taking off that old, mean you and putting on a new attitude. This new mind is a new self, which represents the way we all were truly meant to be, “created to be like God in truth and right standing.”
So go ahead with encouraging the development of a better society, but also include the necessity of putting on your new self.
You will enjoy the better you without even considering these wretched ways. Internal peace accompanies this fulfilment.
