“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” (Psalm 18:2 NKJV) “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change and though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains quake at its swelling pride.” (Psalm 46:1-3 NASB)
Security and safety are two of the many necessities in life. To be safe from diseases, we eat healthy food and keep our body fit through exercise and jogging. To protect our valuables from theft, we lock the door of our homes when we are out. Local and national governments take utmost steps in securing their localities. To be short, protection is a universal necessity.
What does it mean to be safe, secure and protected? There are galore of opinions among a large number of people. Distinguished cultural and ethnic backgrounds, the way of lifestyle one is living in, are some reasons that have a profound impact in a person’s individual idea of being safe. Even different readers reading this piece of writing have a myriad of opinions concerning safety.
You may have seen the phrase “Safety First” in various locations. Even in the road traffic rules it is a compulsory law for bikers to wear helmets and for drivers to wear their seat belts. All of us know that all traffic rules are meant for the protection and safety of the travelers. In view of these examples from daily living, it is quite clear that safety is a common need.
Even the people having authority need to be protected and we all know that such distinguished persons are accompanied by their bodyguards. Nevertheless, there is no need to say that all these precautions are not completely reliable. In light of the verses mentioned in the beginning of this article, we come to the knowledge that protection comes from the Lord God alone. God alone can protect us, no one else.
“When you cross deep waters, I will be with you, and you won’t drown. When you walk through fire, you won’t be burned or scorched by the flames.” (Isaiah 43:2 CEV) “If you say, ‘The Lord is my refuge,’ and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.” (Psalm 91:9-12 NIV)
Our God is a God of possibilities. The Bible speaks in Jeremiah 32:27, “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me?” (ESV) Can’t the Lord who created you, be able to protect you as well? Surely, He can! The same God who protected Daniel in the lion’s den centuries ago is able and faithful enough to guard you as well. “The Lord protects you; the Lord is a shelter right by your side. The Lord will protect you from all harm; He will protect your life.” (Psalm 121:5 & 7 HCSB)
The most assuring and comforting truth which gives us a new hope and confidence in life is that the Lord God thinks of us. Your very dear ones, whom you trusted, may have abandoned you when you fell into various troubles and problems. But God is GOD! He is not a human to leave you helpless. There are countless testimonies of people from different walks of life, who have tasted the care and protection of this great God.
There is no problem in life from which the Lord cannot deliver. Even the prodigious and colossal realities of our life are under the mighty control of our God. Friend, what situation are you going through today? The Lord knows it better than anyone else. Do not be disheartened. You have put your trust in the Creator and Sustainer of the whole creation and not in the ingenious and influential people who do not care about you even though they could. When everyone else forsakes, God rescues.
“It is better to trust the Lord for protection than to trust anyone else, including strong leaders.” (Psalm 118:8, 9 CEV) Yes! A life, a job, a relationship, anything in life, which is dedicated and submitted to God, is indestructible. No one can harm it.
But even after knowing all this truth, it is human nature to fear and worry over trivial matters. You may have announced and proclaimed that God is able to provide you ultimate protection. But when problems arrived, your trust in God was shaken. Why? Because you doubted the ability and faithfulness of God. You failed to be phlegmatic and patient when storms arose and you started blaming God for all that has happened in your life. It is God’s sincere and earnest desire to remove all your doubts and give you the ability to trust in Him. You cannot have faith unless God implants it in your hearts.
Can you remove all your worldly concerns, cast your burdens and fears in the hands of God and start trusting Him in everything? If you do, you can be sure that you are safe.
