The living waters

Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?”

John 4:12 NKJV

To the ignorance of the Samaritan woman about life and God and when He was asked to prove His greatness over and above that of Jacob who was the beginning point of the nation of Israel, Jesus replies to her with a greater truth which only God can provide.

Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”

John 4:13-14 NKJV

There is limit to where the customs, traditions and rituals will take it, however when it’s over then again we are left alone, when all who are associated with it are lost and gone, we again find ourselves as if groping in the darkness to find yet another light.

God has a perfect solution, that which will last till eternity.

The object being discussed here is water and the sources are Jacob’s well or the eternal source through Jesus.

Jesus knew that the thirst of the Samaritan woman extends far beyond that of the natural water from the well, the emptiness in her life can only be filled by God, when the peace and solace from God will fill her heart, she will seek no further, she will not be in want, rather she will become a source of blessing to many.

Christ knows us and our need, He understands our desperations and concerns, the best person to know us and feel with us is our loving Lord Jesus Christ.

We might be circling around many of our so called ‘Jacob’s well’, trying to quench our thirst and desiring blessedness, yet until our spiritual being is filled with the love and peace from God, we will be ever thirty and ever wanting.

Let’s come to Christ, Who desires to fill us and bless us with everlasting joy, for there is none like Him, so good and so true.

An invitation from God to all of us:

“Ho! Everyone who thirsts,
Come to the waters;
And you who have no money,
Come, buy and eat.
Yes, come, buy wine and milk
Without money and without price.
Why do you spend money for what is not bread,
And your wages for what does not satisfy?
Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good,
And let your soul delight itself in abundance.
