Bumper Stickers

“Mom, what does that bumper sticker say?”  my daughter ask of the car driving in front of us.  I had noticed it, but this time it struck me differently.  “Marine Mom.”  I answered my daughter.  “Her son or daughter is a marine, a soldier,” I explained whole-heartedly.  Immediately, my son’s words earlier that day resurfaced in my mind: “Christians shouldn’t believe in coincidences, right Mom?”  The flood of thoughts in my head didn’t stop there.  “Pray!” This command completely consumed me.  

“Ansley, we have to pray for this mom’s child, the soldier, right now,” I explained to my daughter in tears.  A command from God humbles me; that He would think of me -- it overwhelms me every time to tears.  Then and there, we prayed for both the soldier and for the mom in the car.  I didn’t know either of them, but I knew with all my heart that there is so much power in prayer, and that God knew that these two were in need of prayer.

I now feel assured that their lives today are in God’s loving, protective hands.  I wonder how many other people saw that bumper sticker and were commanded to pray.  Furthermore, how many cars do we pass every day with a bumper sticker that gives us personal information about the driver and his/her family? “Baby aboard,” “Honor student,” “26.2,” are stickers that give us information on a particular need for prayer that this person has in their lives.  Even inappropriate bumper stickers give us an idea of how to pray for the driver.  Prayer needs are all over the road!  Perhaps your next drive should be a prayer journey!
