The way to be born again
Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”
Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
John 3:4-8 NKJV
When men and women begin to realize and accept their spiritual personality, they worry about their spiritual destiny, thus in a similar manner had Nicodemus approached Jesus, to find the easiest way to heaven. The answer of Jesus that ‘being born again is a prerequisite to reach heaven’ puzzled Nicodemus and thus he genuinely asks the way to be born again.
I personally witnessed a similar conversation between a young boy and an elderly woman from the Gabalfa Baptist church in Wales, UK when I was on a business trip to Wales and had accompanied the evangelism team for the evening’s outreach on the streets of Cardiff.
Definitely a long time gap separates Nicodemus and the young man I witnessed, yet the quest and the question remains the same.
Someone has rightly said “We are not human being having a spiritual experience; rather we are spiritual being having a human experience.”
The question, “How to be born again?” is vital and important and thus has to be addressed and the answer sought for at any cost. My question to you “Are you born again?” and if not “do you know how to be born again?”, I am not taking care to ask, “if you want to be born again?” for the very reason that there is no other alternative (unless otherwise if you have chosen your own damnation).
Jesus carefully answers to Nicodemus the need to be born ‘of the water and the Spirit.”
The water here signifies the ‘Word of God’ the knowledge and acceptance of which leads us to publicly confess and profess Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior through water baptism and the acceptance of a new life.
The Spirit is the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the most blessed gift from God for every ‘child of God’. The importance of the Holy Spirit has been described even from the old testament time when Prophet Samuel addressed to Saul that ‘this will change you into a different person’(ref. 1 Samuel 10:6) (a blessed person which we all desire to be).
God is ready to speak to us and bless us through His Word which we hear often in the church and also He speaks to us when we take time and prayerfully meditate upon it (the Bible).
The Lord is even more desirous to fill us with His Holy Spirit, so we may live an anointed life on this earth and be ‘more than a conqueror’ through Jesus in all our endeavors.
Let’s satisfy our quest for God and a blessed life, for we cannot for long ignore the call of our spiritual being which yearns and longs to be like Him Who created us and Who loves us the best.
God Bless,
Abraham
