She was a beautiful young woman, had a good figure, an orphan under the care of Mordeccai, her cousin. She was among the young virgins who were assembled in Susa at the palace of King Xerxes who was in search of a queen to replace Vashti. Esther was put in the royal palace in the care of Hegai, who was in charge of the Harem. Hegai liked Esther, and she won his favour. He lost no time in beginning her beauty treatment of massage and special diet. He gave her the best place in the harem and assigned seven young women specially chosen from the royal palace to serve her. Esther had not revealed that she was Jewish on the advice of Mordeccai. The regular beauty treatment for the girls lasted a year after which each young woman would be taken in turn to the king. These girls when going from harem to the palace could wear whatever they wanted. Each one would go there in the evening, and the next morning she would be taken to another harem and put in the care of Shaashgaz, the eunuch in charge of the king’s concubines. She would not go to the king again unless he liked her enough to ask for her by name. The time for Esther to go to the king came and she wore just what Hegai, the eunuch in charge of the harem, advised her to wear. The king liked her more than any of the other women, and more than any of the others she won his favour and affection. He placed the royal crown on her head and made her queen in place of Vashti. At a later date, Esther would put her life on the line to rescue her people from the hands of their enemies. Esther, no doubt was a transformed woman. Transformation helps us to become our authentic selves – the people who God created us to be. We come into the kingdom Of God as we are and this becomes the beginning of God’s work in us. He turns us over to the Holy Spirit for transformation who in turn uses the word of God to change us inwards. Our souls need to be saved and the soul is often defined as the mind, the will and the emotions and all of them need salvation.
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will (Romans 12:2) NIV.
Transformation is and has been the plan of God since the beginning.
For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters (Romans 8:29) NIV.
Transformation is one of the most important aspects of Christian life. It is not just important for our own growth and development but also it gives God the opportunity to introduce us to a higher, more meaningful and deeper understanding of our relationship with Him. Transformation is a process that involves graduating from one dimension of living to a superior one and from one level of experience to a higher one through acquisition of new information which can only be acquired through the word of God. For us to remain in victory, transformation must be pursued. It is a divine mandate upon us so that we can be able to fulfil our divine purposes on earth. Transformation cannot take place by default; we must work out our salvation with fear and trembling. Since it involves the word of God, our ‘diet’ needs to change. For us to be transformed, we need to choose what we ‘eat’ or internalise. The enemy is always ready to feed us with his diet which is worldly and fleshly and this cannot help us at all. Just like Daniel, we need to choose what is godly and take it upon ourselves to ensure we ‘eat’ and internalise that and this is the word of God. Transformation is God’s master plan to change us into becoming more like His Son Jesus. Since we enter into the kingdom direct from the world, we must be taught kingdom disciplines. This is important because even as we present ourselves before God to pray and also serve Him in our daily lives, we will not see things our way but God’s way. It therefore opens our eyes to see beyond the natural, obvious and familiarity. It is a way of maturing a believer.
A woman, as many tend to think is not good for nothing. She can accomplish much and do beyond imagination but only if she is truly transformed. Many of us think that we are good, able to stand by ourselves and do many things. Though we may attempt to do things, the truth is that many are times we get defeated – very easily for that matter. This is because our inner selves are still worldly and we lack spiritual growth and maturity. Sometimes we limit ourselves and underestimate what we can do and accomplish due to lack of transformation. We drown ourselves and allow ourselves to get consumed by self pity, insecurity, low self esteem and negativities due to lack of transformation. A transformed woman knows who she is in God. She is grounded in God, she is sure of herself; she knows who she is and why she exists. She does not engage in petty issues and or fights others because she is a new being in Christ Jesus. She is completely renewed.
Transformation helps us find a new identity in Christ Jesus. The truth is that though many of us are saved and in Christ Jesus, we still struggle so much to find ourselves. Unless we know who we are, we will keep on moving from one place to another, hopping from one man to another and doing all manner of things to fill the void within us. That void exists because it can only be filled with God Himself and no matter what we do, we will always feel empty and unfulfilled in life. But when we embrace transformation we will find rest in Christ and life will even begin to make sense. We will walk through life with a clear sense of direction and our priorities will also be meaningful.
In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use. Those who cleanse themselves for the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to any good work (2 Timothy 2:20-21) NIV.
In the story of Esther, we realise that all of the maidens who went to the king for approval to be made Queen, ended up as one of the king’s concubines. A concubine is defined as a woman who lives with a man but has lower status than his wife. All these women were still in the kingdom but they had lower status. The fact that they were king’s concubines means that their positions were not as useful or so important to the king. Note that many of these maidens ended up here meaning the king was not pleased with any of them or did not get what he was looking for until Esther showed up. Transformation is what hqualified to be used for special purposes. Esther was crowned queen because she qualified, she had what the king was looking for, she pleased the king who had no choice but to crown her queen in place of Vashti. This means that if, as a woman, you wish to be used for special purposes by God, then transformation must take place.
