What was Jesus like?

What kind of person was Jesus? A question we are still answering. You couldn't really say that he was a nice guy in the way that we think of nice guys. He called the unbelieving jews, in John chapter eight, children of the devil. And in Matthew chapter sixteen he rebuked Peter and the other disciples for their lack of faith. When Jesus was tempted of the devil, in Matthew chapter four, we find some good clues about the kind of person he was.

The devil knew that Jesus was hungry and tempted him to turn stones into bread but Jesus said, "It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." These words that Jesus replied to the devil are found in Deuteronomy. [Deu 8:3 KJV] And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live. The purpose of the wilderness journey was to teach us humility. Jesus was HUMBLE.

In the nest episode of Matthew, Jesus was taken to the top of the temple at Jerusalem and the devil said, “If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.” But Jesus quickly replied, “Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.” These words that Jesus spoke are also found in Deuteronomy and have to do with diligence to obey and teach God's word. [Deu 6:16,17 KJV] Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah. Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee. [Deu 4:9 KJV] Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons' sons; [Deu 6:7 KJV] And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. Jesus was DILIGENT.

Finally the devil took Jeaus to a high mountain and told him that he would give him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them if he would bow down and worship him. But Jesus replied, “Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.” Jesus spoke the first commandment, [Exo 20:3 KJV] Thou shalt have no other gods before me. [Exo 34:14 KJV] For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God: Worship means to bow down to, to reverence, or to yield oneself to. Jesus was STRONG. This is the Father's nature. We worship the strongest and most powerful God. [Nahum 1:7 KJV] The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him. Thank God that Jesus didn't bow down to the devil in any area of life. He was obedient in body, soul, and spirit. He fulfilled the law and overcame our every weakness.  Jesus was HUMBLE, DILIGENT, and STRONG.
