The crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus is one of the biggest events in all of history. This very important event is the basis of the Christian faith. It either did happen or it did not happen. Historians such as Josephus and Luke and even historians from the Roman empire recorded the events. The question I would like to pose is why was the sacrificial lamb known as Jesus sent to die such a horrible death? Well, first we must go back to Genesis where the fall of man took place. In chapter 3 of Genesis, after Adam and Eve had been tricked by Satan, God made a prophetic claim that he would send one who would smash the serpent's head. This man would be Jesus, the son of God. Jesus came willingly and agreed to accept the father's plan long before the beginning of time. The prophet Isaiah in chapter 53 also foretold of the Messiah's coming as a man of sorrows who would bear the worlds sins. The wrath of God had built up to the point to where something had to be done. God took out his wrath on his only Son when Jesus cried on the cross "Father, why have thou forsaken me?" You see, there is one thing that needs to be made clear, God is holy and hates sin. God cannot accept sin in his kingdom. Something had to be done for the problem of sin. Jesus was the solution. Sin carried Jesus to that cross. Nobody could find blame with Jesus, not even Pontius Pilate, the procurator in Jerusalem at that time. The Jewish Priests and the Sanhedrin were looking for a way to rid their city of this Jesus. When Jesus made the claim that the temple would be destroyed and raised in 3 days time. The crafty Priests found something to accuse him of, not knowing Jesus was correct about his claim. The leaders of the the temple went as far as to try Jesus at night time in private so as to not stir up the crowd of followers. They went against Jewish tradition and regulations to kill an innocent man. When Jesus was beaten and forced to carry his cross, historians record that Jesus was almost dead due to the loss of blood during his beating. The Roman soldiers nailed him to the cross and 3 hours later gave up his spirit to God almighty. Today we spread the good news of the blood of Jesus and the saving power of the blood of Christ. You see, Jesus was beaten and crucified so bad, that when he gave up his spirit and was speared by the Roman guard to ensure he was dead, nothing but water came from the body of Jesus. This is symbolic of how much Jesus loves every one of us and that is why his blood is so important. Jesus had faith that his father in heaven would resurrect him and give him life once again and that he wanted to save those who would believe. God did that for Jesus and he can do that for all believers.
