"Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death. Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers." (James 1:13-16)
The world is at war, a war of terror. Yes, WW III is now here. It is a war like none other. The battle field is the streets of our towns. The enemy is our neighbors. The uniforms are the everyday street cloths. The weapons are anything ready available, such as airplanes, cars, trucks, cell phones, etc. The recruiters are using the many social media networks. And this war is defined by using violence (terror) in order to achieve a political, religious, or ideological aim. Thus, it has no boundaries, nor rules of war. Anything goes, to effect its evil on the world.
What has caused this most difficult war of all times ? There again, just one word 'evil". Why evil and what part does it play in the mindset of this radical terrorist culture ? We know evil is morally wrong, as evil gets its roots from bad character (Psalm 51:4).
Mankind's civilization was first established when our creator, God, created our first parents (Genesis 1:26-28) (Genesis 2:21-22). As a result of this creation, and God giving our first parents the free will (Genesis 4:6-7) of making decisions (Genesis 2:16-17), mankind then committed the first sin (Genesis 3:1-7). Thus the birth of evil.
As a matter of fact, Satan, or Devil if you prefer, actually created evil. By his evil aspirations , and his pride (1 Timothy3:6). He was first cast out of heaven (Ezek 28:13-19). And by his desire to take charge over all the earth, and to get even with God, he caused our first parents to sin, in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:1-7) (Romans 5:12). So, he has been deceiving mankind ever since these first acts of evil (Ephesians 6:11-12). Evil may then be grouped into two classifications. Evil committed against mankind, and evil committed against God . And terror gets its roots from both categorizations.
Evil cannot exist in and of itself. It has to have a helper, in order to cultivate. And often times it is a parasite on the good (1 Timothy 4:1-2. And this helper has many cohorts (Matthew 4:24).
What are some indirect effects of this terror, brought on by evil ? Human suffering is the most disastrous. Followed by emotional stress, anxiety and grief. Then comes the disruption of our normal civil activity such as mass murders, bombings, fires, public displays, blatant disregard and disrespect for law enforcement. This chaos is brought on by the deliberate acts of fellow human beings to cause panic, fear and suffering.
Opposite to the attitude of evil, is the love of God (Ephesians 2:4-5). This goodness has existed as an attribute of God from eternity past, to eternity present, and onward to eternal future. In other words, God has always existed (Revelation 1:4), so too has His love for mankind.
So, from a Christian perspective, how do we win these battles ? How do we win this war. First, we must recognize this war has two battle fronts, the physical and the spiritual. The physical, sub-classified as either foreign or domestic terror, should be left to the professional law enforcement agencies. The spiritual, however, is a much tougher assignment. For the wrestle against the unseen dark evil world of Satan (Ephesians 6:11-12). And as a direct by-product of this evil spiritual world comes terrorism.
After having identified this enemy, the apostle Paul gives us our battle plan (Ephesians6:10-12). Then, he outlines our full battle gear in (Ephesians 6:13-17). Paul then concludes by reminding us that by taking up the full armor of God, we will be able to stand firm against all evil(Ephesians 6:13). So, put on this spiritual gear, as follows:
1--Stand firm having girded our loins with truth, and having put on the breast plate of righteousness (Ephesians 6:14).
2--Having shot our feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace (Ephesians 6:15)
3--Taking the shield of Faith, to extinguish all the enemies evil missiles (Ephesians 6:16).
4--Taking the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit, God's Word (Ephesians 6:17).
5--The apostle Paul then concludes this battle plan, by giving the importance of prayer, in our battle against evil (Ephesians 6:18).
In conclusion, we know that evil will always be in this sinful world, as a result of sin. And terror will continue to thrive until the return of Jesus(1 Peter 5:8). We also know too that although we Christians are in this evil world, we are not of this world. (John 17:15-18). So, while in this world, we have a cure, that of God over Satan (James 4:7-8, 10). Regardless of the terror that may, and probably will, come, throughout the world, I have read the back of the book (Revelation) and we win.
Author's Post Script
There is virtually nothing that can be done to stop a suicide bomber in a crowded space. As a human weapon, he has the precision of a drone missile. At the root of such an act, is a misconception, based on a false radical religion. So, then as true believers, we must not only pray that this false psychology be revised, but that this false concept be reversed by a true conversion and love of God (John 3:16-17).
