The best dad moments are spontaneous
When the unexpected pulls your hidden in view
Now every other weekend I face the impossible
How to get you to share your heart on cue

Blue-eyed pools
Ear lobe rubs
I spoiled little league
Now you just root for the Cubs

Talked on God
Then demons in my shouts!
Will you even feel sadness?
Dad is moving out

The best teaching moments are sprung upon us
Like no punching above the shoulder when you duel
No kicking, no scratching, no taking unwanted pictures
And there’s never, ever any reason to be cruel

Red-splotched nose
Eyelashes that flow
Spoke love with my eyes
How else you going to know?

Untouched meals
This chef has no clout
I don’t like what boys are texting you!
Dad is moving out

Our strongest felt emotions leak out of us
Your reaction to any question my first clue
Is it eyes engaged, face set to pleasant?
Use complete sentences as all the adults do?

Easiest baby
Huggers delight
Got your beauty from mom
Got your dad’s appetite

You fought me ever knowing
What your heart’s about
I’ll never learn near all I want to
Dad is moving out

The worse dad failures pollute all around us
Means words leave such a toxic residue
Now all the eyes I love only look for deeds
I go alone wherever my new found faith leads me to
