                                                Serving where you least Expect

‘Most Assuredly, I say to you when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked where you wished, but when you are old , you will stretch out your hands, and another will carry you where you do not wish.’ [John 21:18 NKJV]

Now in my ‘golden years’ I can understand very clearly the truth of this admonition. I receive this with blessing to cherish for the rest of my days. As a young man starting out with career, married raising five children, I could never have expected many years later where God would lead me.

Learning that my life is not my own, the Apostle Paul well defined:  ‘What we preach is not our own but Jesus Christ as Lord with ourselves as your servants for Jesus sake.’ 2 Cor. 4:5 Did I always fulfill those childhood ambitions and dreams…? No, but then confessing this I found the path I was on brought me closer to ‘abiding in Him’; receiving wisdom, maturity, and blessing that could only come by surrendering into the power of His presence.

Soon to be 77 years and still growing, I’m also learning the blessing of God’s Amazing Grace; to be part of my five children and five grandchildren’s growing and learning. Through God’s divine order, subsequent to my retirement, I’ve been blessed to preach, sing, and encourage others through writing. One might say 180 degrees from my vocation of administration, finance/accounting as a public servant.  

Never doubt the reward and blessings are far richer remaining on God’s ‘narrow path’ for living. Are we there yet…? As my children would ask, traveling through time, our journey is one of growing and learning.
