My heart was on love overload as I watched my adorable grand-daughter, Taytum, play with her Playschool kitchen set. She was up early and I savored every moment with her- living a few hours away, along with work schedules limit our visits. With my cup of coffee still steaming, I sat on the couch and watched in sheer delight as Taytum searched for the couple of eggs that she knew were in the basket to cook for the breakfast that I had requested. She seemed thrilled at the task of preparing something for me and responded with her sweet words, “Well, A- Corse- Gamma!” Mind you – she's two and not always completing sentences, but loves to talk to herself so I heard lots of jabber. She opened the oven and found one of her small wooden pots, which then she threw the eggs into and proceeded to shove it back into the oven to cook them. She pushed a button that made a sizzling noise and turned the burners red. Breakfast was cooking in her world! I thanked the Lord silently for her life and that He would draw her to Himself as I continued to watch her sort through her food basket again. I listened to her talk to herself as she put more things on her little stove, but the words that really touched me that particular morning were when I heard her mutter rather quietly that her Daddy threw all the monsters from her room into the ocean. Then, she spoke with a confident louder voice, “I Ok, they not coming back! I Ok,” she declared as she shook her head up and down and continued to play. The Holy Spirit spoke to my heart though her words and actions. Don’t you love that?! She believed her Daddy and spoke out loud what he had said and I felt like she was again reminding herself that she didn't need to worry or be scared about monsters at bedtime. The sweet visual of father and child overwhelmed my heart – a thankfulness that my son is a great Dad. My parents were divorced when I was young and I didn’t get to experience that kind of trust with my own biological father, but I marvel at how over time my heavenly Father has helped me realize that He’s the Daddy I continue to learn to trust in. I believe His words. The Holy Spirit is faithful to bring them to mind. I’ve found that when I say them out loud, they push back fear. What a powerful weapon! Perhaps the Spirit will bring something fresh to your mind, a promise that you need to declare today to move forward? Scripture reminds us and teaches us about God’s great love for us. How many times does the Bible remind us to not fear?! Yet, we all experience fear at times, as it is a God given emotion. It’s up to us as to what we will do to remedy the fear. Lord, help us, we need the reminders! When Taytum mentioned that her Daddy threw the monsters into the sea, my thoughts drifted to a scene in the book of Exodus. The account is where Moses and the Israelites were being chased by the Egyptians. Moses was leading them out of slavery under God’s direction, but the Israelites were terrified. Fear led them to question why they were doing what they were doing and even caused them to cry out that they would rather return to slavery. Oh – where fear can lead us. Exodus 14: 13 Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Moses believed God and moved forward with the instructions the Lord gave him - I'm sure he still might have experienced some fright don't you think?! He just forged forward in belief. Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the Lord drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. Imagine the scene – the wind and sound of the restraint of the sea, we can only imagine. In Exodus 14: 26-28, the Lord gives further instruction. Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea so that the waters may flow back over the Egyptians and their chariots and horsemen.” Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at daybreak the sea went back to its place. The Egyptians were fleeing toward it, and the Lord swept them into the sea. The water flowed back and covered the chariots and horsemen- the entire army of Pharaoh that had followed the Israelites into the sea. Not one of them survived. PRAYER: Lord, YOU are good! We have YOUR word and YOU never change. YOU are bigger than anything we fear. When we fear, remind us that as believers we can do all things through YOU! “We OK” in YOU!! Turn any fear we may have to faith! Thank YOU that YOU love us and desire the best for us always. YOU will lead us – help us to follow. WE BELIEVE.
