You are the Potter
We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand. Isaiah 64: 8b NIV
Before there was anything – there was the Potter. The trinity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit dwelt in eternity, surrounded by the hosts of Heaven in unity and adoration. He had wealth, power, and perfection. But in Genesis 2: 7 we find that “the LORD God (the Potter) formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”
How exciting that God chose to bring man into existence! He formed us from a common substance found in every area and on every surface of the earth: dust. But even more incredible is the fact that he breathed the breath of life into our nostrils. Every breath we take is a gift from God, our Potter. We hold the breath of God in our bodies. Without this life-giving breath, we are but dust.
When a potter works, he uses his talents to form items of his choice. And so God, using his creative genius, made us all different. “Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use?” Romans 9: 21
We often focus on our differences, desiring what others have, instead of focusing on the miracle of our reality. Life is precious and should not be taken lightly. Yes, we have been tainted with sin, but God has given us a Saviour to make a way for us to enter into a right relationship with the Potter.
