                                     Our Promise Land-Finding Rest in Jesus

‘That we may know Him, the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death.’ [Philippians 3:10].

1445 BC God gave Moses commission to take his people Israel, from Egypt to a ‘promised Land’ flowing with milk and honey. This mandate was to show Israel God’s love; free from the bondage they were under 430 years after Jacob and his family of 70 settled the land of Goshen, in Egypt.

But it was 40 years of wandering in the wilderness; not until the first generation of Israelites perished in the desert before God fulfilled His promise of bringing them to His ‘Promise Land.’ Not because God wanted to show them the scenic route, but rather, because of the rebellion of those folks. Grumbling, whining, not recognizing they were to put themselves in complete dependency upon God; to lead them, be thankful for His provision of abundant resources. God wanted them to recognize and understand His power and authority.

God’s power is made perfect in our own weakness, through faith alone; not of human determination or self-made work effort on man’s part can we find calm, and rest. Today, almost 3,500 years after the exodus, people around the world are still attempting to find their own ‘promise land’ of hope and purpose in their strength.

 In a few weeks multitudes will gather, celebrate, and worship in remembrance on ‘Resurrection or Easter Sunday’, God’s most wonderful ‘Gift of Love. Our own promise land while we are still residents here on earth, is having confident assurance; ‘Greater is He that is in us then He that is in the world.’ [1 John 4:4b]
