What Is Homosexuality? Homosexuality is the manifestation of sexual desire toward a member of ones own sex or erotic activity with a member of the same sex. The Greek word homo means the same. Most recently the term gay has come into popular use to refer both sexes who are homosexuals. Homosexuality is an illicit lust, forbidden by God. He said to His people Israel, "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind; it is abomination" (Lev.18.22). It was one of the sins for which God judged Sodom and Gomorrah in Lots time. It is condemned in no uncertain terms in (1Cor.6:9-10). As a Christian, my response should be very direct without any compromise and discussion on the logical reasons which the world is giving or imposing. God Made Them Adam And Eve The creation story has a marvellous description about Gods mind on human relations and that is why He made them male and female. God did not create male and male, or female and female. This is a very strong reason for Christians who are already having the foundation from the very first book of the Bible. Is it not a foundational relationship ordained by God? Today many Christians are confused because the world is imposing on them their ideologies; but we have to be cautious ethically, morally and spiritually. Homosexuality has no value. Be alert! In the Old Testament times, God dealt severely with homosexuals. He warned His people through Moses, "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads" (Lev.20:13). Every Jew knew that homosexuality was an abomination, a disgusting practice to be loathed and hated. This was Gods attitude toward that evil practice. The prophet described Gods relationship with His people Israel. "I will betroth you to Me forever; I will betroth you in righteousness and justice, in love and compassion" (Hos.2:19). The New Testament describes Gods wrath on the people who are not obeying Him (Rom.1:25,27). He permitted them to be put in unnatural sexual activities. It is written, "They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served created things rather than the Creator who is forever praised. Amen. Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion." Those who know what Gods desire is, obey things which God likes. "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders" (1Cor.6:9). Our stand as Christians should be clear on this matter. From the beginning God is clear about His intelligent, beautiful and wisdom-filled creation. When God created, He said, "It is good." There is no sense of contradiction and confusion in His creation. Even the best intellectuals, scientists, builders or engineers have never been able to match the creation which God made for all humanity. In Gods creation everything has a very special place. Unnatural ways disturb the harmony of Gods creation. From a small molecule to the biggest mountains, from the wide spread of universe to deepest ocean everything finds a perfect place in Gods creation. To Be Fruitful The command to be fruitful (Gen.1:28) carried the implication that Adam and Eve were to have sexual union. In sexuality we are looking to connect with another person to express love and commitment, find fulfilment and even a mystical union. These are the spiritual and emotional components of sex life. Actually, yadah, the Hebrew word for sexual intimacy, means literally to know, as in Adam knew Eve (Gen.4.1). (yadah includes knowledge acquired through the senses, experiences that can be passed on to others, and practical knowledge). Yet David used the same word for God when he said in Psalm 139, "O Lord, You have searched me and You know me." The Bible has a whole book describing the story of two lovers--the Song of Solomon. It speaks of the bridegroom rejoicing over the bride (Isa.62.5) and encourages husbands to find sexual satisfaction with their wives and to be always transported with delight in their love (Pro.5.18,19;1Cor.7.5). There is nothing sinful about it; it is legitimate and right. It is because of the impurity always associated with sex in the minds of many that they are unable to understand how God permitted all this to be included in His word. Marriage is a kind of covenant wherein the man and woman become one flesh (Gen.2.24). Many sermons encourage married people to pray together. Many are able to pray while eating, driving, working or laughing, but to pray when we are about to make love might appear very different or wrong. We have to notice this very carefully that marriage involves a three way relationship between you, your spouse and God. Sexuality connects a creature to God in celebrating intimacy. How can humanity be fruitful when we are focussing on infertility like homosexuality? Homosexuality does not bear the fruit of sex. God denied homosexuality and ordained a relationship between male and female to enjoy them and be an originator to bring the new generation blessed by God. The Bible warns every Christian to be alert about the wickedness of the world. "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God" (1Cor. 6:9,10).] Attitude Towards Homosexuals Do Christians hate homosexuals? No! Absolutely and unequivocally, true Christians do not hate homosexuals! True Christians love homosexuals. Is it hatred to flag down a driver and plead with him to turn around when a bridge is out? Do we hate smokers when we encourage them to quit smoking? Do we hate alcoholics when we encourage them to quit drinking? Do we hate people with anger problems when we encourage them to learn to control their tempers? If your loved one engages in behaviour of any kind that turns out to be damaging or destructive to the family or to others, the most loving and compassionate thing you can do for your loved one is to encourage him to stop the behaviour through the word of God and encourage them to live life in the right manner. How To Deal With Homosexuals? The testimony of many people who were homosexuals is that they have been radically changed through encounters with Jesus. The Bible says that Christ and the power of the Gospel rid us of our old nature and enable us to receive a new nature which is a righteous nature. Keys to changing homosexuality include belief that a real change is possible, love from the church for those choosing to wage war against their old nature, and affirmation and healthy normal relationships from Christians of the same gender. There are two errors, being overly hostile towards homosexuals and condoning homosexual practice. Determine to love homosexuals without affirming homosexuality. Hatred of homosexuality is not the same as homophobia or hatred of homosexuals. Hate homosexuality. Love homosexuals with an aim to encourage them towards transformation through Christ, either instantly or over time. conclusion A panel of specialists in medicine, psychiatry, law, sociology and theology participated in a conference on homosexuality called by the Swiss Evangelical Church Union. The group reached the conclusion that homosexuality is not constitutionally inherited; it is not a part of ones genetic makeup. The ill-founded and unverified myth that homosexuality results from genetic cause is fading away. Dear friends, we have to move forward and stand for the right things and always remember that the Word of God is our foundation. So we do not have any confusion or contradiction as to how we respond to the issue of homosexuality.
