WHAT DO WE STAND FOR AS CHRISTIANS?

     When certain political and other influential people complain about Christianity being under attack in this country while they complain about the bothersome poor and how they are sucking the life out of our society, let's revisit what Christianity is all about.

     Stephen Colbert, the comedian and talk-show host, said, "If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don't want to do it."

     If we Christians in this country are going to yell, "persecution", then let's do something worth being persecuted for - speak up for and come to the aid of the poor and rejected within our society. Our faith was never meant to be fair-weather or humdrum.  Humble service in our Lord Jesus' name brings light into darkness. Let us bow lowest before the poorest in spirit. Let us lay prostrate that we may be the stepping stone to our Lord for those rejected in life.
