Ever stopped to think about when time began, the earth began, maybe even when God began? Sure, many argue, speculate, divide, even reject each other over these questions. But mine is not an attempt to set a standard, provide answers, even to argue/debate the this-n-that about it... I'm merely asking you to consider a curious concept called Eternity. Too often, we think of eternity as something that is coming, but we must also consider what has been to this point, and just how far back does it go? Eternity seems to be already in existence, and we are just a quick blip in it!
Frankly, it is beyond me to understand, grasp, comprehend when God appeared on the eternity horizon, but Psalms 90:2, does clarify; "Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.", which discusses how God was present before 'things' were created and promises to be there once they are done. Curiously, I then consider the 'why' part of all this; eternity, the earth, our lives, the future.
It is days like Christmas that give us 'markers' along this eternity timeline to help demonstrate to us that we are not in some funky Life-Loop that repeats itself (with quirky variations) every two-three generations. His birth marks a definitive means for us to; 1) fellowship with Him, but also 2) revel in His Glory. See, Colossians 1:27 tells us; "To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory", which means we are much, much more than just a blip on God's eternity timeline. As these annual and seasonal events loop through our calendar year (marking time for us), we most assuredly are marching along His eternity timeline too. Only, not many realize they ARE already IN eternity. If only we'd realize that and live like our eternity matters... not being just a blip of eternity.
Why?
Not to mention the core value of this precious life God has given us (over creatures, the fish and foul and every living creature), but as Colossians 3:15 instructs us; "And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful."
No longer being A Blip of Eternity, but being; a recipient of times past; a consumer of times present; and contributor of times coming... not just being alive, but genuinely living in and for His glory.
